Job DescriptionReporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, this role will support the evolution of the company HACCP standards to align with the strategic direction and achieving certification in our Ottawa and Mississauga facilities. The HACCP Coordinator will lead the organization's efforts to develop, implement, and maintain its HACCP System, including all forms, pre-requisite programs, SOPs, and checklists. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers, and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.
Major Responsibilities:
- Develop plant wide documentation control process to meet audit requirements.
- Create, modify, and maintain procedures and organize the facilities shared drive.
- Develop, maintain, and coordinate HACCP Plan and Team, including a system for tracking maintenance of HACCP Plan.
- Ensure all pre-requisite and form requirements are being met.
- Communicate any updates or revisions to the HACCP system.
- Organize and/or conduct policy and procedural training for plant.
- Organize monthly HACCP meetings with the HACCP team, following up on remaining actions items.
- Keep up to date on food safety laws and regulations.
- Perform procedure verifications and any associated deviation and verification reports.
- Report hazards and place potentially contaminated products on hold pending review by manager and/or director.
- Participate in government audits including: supporting the coordination/preparation of audit information, communication of non-compliances to individual departments and a system for tracking non conformances, responses, and corrective actions.
- Analyze processes, identify trends and anomalies, and continuously evaluate plant programs for improvement.
- Conduct internal audit standards to ensure compliance to HACCP Plan on the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Team.
- Perform mock recalls and traceability exercises as needed.
- Compile statistical data and write narrative reports on HACCP Program.
- May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis.
- Typically requires post-secondary education in Quality Assurance, Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or a related science field, plus a minimum of 2 years experience working with written Food Safety and quality programs in a food manufacturing plant, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- HACCP certification with a knowledge and working experience in a food production environment with HACCP, GFSI, food legislation, and Quality Assurance programs including: process controls, training and supplier management.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a team.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate program improvements.
- Self-starter, results oriented and demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Strong team building, interpersonal, and developmental skills.
- Strong customer-service focus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and within the plant environment as business needs dictate.
- Drivers License is required, as role requires travel between Ottawa and Mississauga Facilities.
Work & Sensory Environment:
- May be required to lift, carry and/or handle heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
- Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
- Required to stand, walk, sit, reach and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- May be required to travel between Farm Boy stores, Home Office and/or Central Operations.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekends.
- Exposure to environmental elements such as noise, dirt, dust, vibration and changing temperatures.
- Ability to work in a cool environment for prolonged periods (4 to 6 degrees Celsius).
