Ontario Line South

Our team is mobilizing its design and construction crews, with major works to commence in 2023. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario's economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometre tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River)
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown.

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Surveyor Location: Ontario Transit Group (OTG) - Ontario Line South Project
Job Overview: As a Senior Surveyor at Ontario Transit Group (OTG), you will be responsible for performing and managing surveying activities for the Ontario Line South project, with a focus on instrumentation and monitoring (I&M), topographical surveys, layout work, troubleshooting, and manual monitoring. Reporting to the Senior Lead Instrumentation Surveyor, you will assist with planning and executing I&M strategies, conducting fieldwork, and ensuring accurate data collection. You will also be responsible for maintaining the survey monitoring network, ensuring all equipment is in good working order, and that calibration certificates are up to date. This role involves significant fieldwork, requiring hands-on participation in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment, as well as manual monitoring readings. You will be expected to comply with safety requirements and other project procedures in all activities. The work may also require night shifts and weekend availability.
Key Responsibilities:
• Surveying & Monitoring: Perform all survey activities related to I&M techniques, including the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and manual data collection from monitoring equipment (AMTS, leveling, tilt meters, HLC, etc.).
• Data Processing: Analyze and process survey and monitoring data, ensuring accuracy and timely updates on the project's monitoring platform.
• Topographical Surveying: Conduct detailed topographical surveys, ensuring precise data collection for layouts and monitoring.
• Layout & Stakeout: Carry out accurate layouts and stakeouts for I&M elements based on design specifications and construction requirements.
• Monitoring Platform Management: Maintain and update the monitoring platform, ensuring that data is continuously validated and available to stakeholders.
• Quality Control: Ensure all surveying and monitoring activities comply with project standards, focusing on data accuracy and fieldwork precision.
• Equipment Maintenance & Calibration: Ensure that all instrumentation is well-maintained, perform regular checks, and ensure all equipment is calibrated according to manufacturer and project requirements.
• Fieldwork: Participate directly in the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and manual monitoring of survey and monitoring instruments at required locations.
• Database Management: Keep accurate records of all survey equipment, including calibration certificates, maintenance logs, and adjustments in a dedicated database.
• Collaboration: Work closely with field teams to ensure that survey and monitoring data is collected efficiently and supports the project's needs.
• Report Generation: Prepare detailed reports and updates based on survey and monitoring data.
• Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve any discrepancies or issues related to survey data or monitoring during fieldwork and post-processing.
• Technology Utilization: Utilize advanced surveying equipment and software (GPS, total stations, leveling, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and monitoring platforms) to enhance the efficiency and precision of fieldwork and data analysis.
• Support Senior Lead Instrumentation Surveyor: Assist in executing I&M strategies, contributing to work package plans, and preparing safety method statements.
• Survey Monitoring Network: Maintain, update, and oversee the survey monitoring network, ensuring all instruments are functioning properly and data is accurate.
• Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Adhere to safety requirements and other project procedures in all activities, including compliance with environmental regulations and protocols.
Qualifications:
• Education: A degree or diploma in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or relevant work experience will be considered an advantage.
• Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in surveying, with at least 3-5 years in a senior role focused on monitoring and topographical survey work.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other CAD software. Strong understanding of surveying equipment and technologies, including GNSS, total stations, and monitoring instruments (AMTS, inclinometers, prisms, tilt meters,).
• Fieldwork Experience: Significant experience in conducting field surveys, installing and troubleshooting monitoring equipment, and collecting manual data.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze survey and monitoring data to ensure project accuracy and quality.
• Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to ensuring the accuracy and precision of field survey work.
• Problem-Solving: Proven ability to address technical challenges in fieldwork and survey data.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed to support project requirements.
• Additional Training: Working at heights training and PTS certification to work in the rail corridor will be considered an advantage.
