Civil Project Manager – Earthworks

Position Overview

The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial and operational performance of assigned projects, from preparation to execution and closeout. This role requires hands-on management to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish, monitor, and control project measurables: Scope, Budget, Schedule, and Quality.
  • Oversee project timelines and communicate any changes to stakeholders.
  • Participate in project review meetings with the Pre-Construction team.
  • Manage contracts, including letters of intent, scope of work, and supplementary conditions.
  • Prepare staging plans, review drawings/specs, and manage project changes.
  • Coordinate submittals, purchase orders, and client expectations with exceptional customer service.
  • Conduct in-office and on-site project pass-over meetings with the project Foreperson.
  • Assist Field Manager as needed with crew direction, problem-solving, and reporting.
  • Track all change management processes and document progress.
  • Conduct monthly progress billing and maintain project financial records.
  • Monitor project revenues, costs, and labor hours to meet targets.
  • Complete project closeouts and transitions to the Services team.

Work Schedule
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (flexibility required based on project needs). The average workweek is 40 hours.

Compensation
$88,000 - $130,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

  • 3 weeks paid vacation
  • 1 week of paid personal leave
  • Benefits available after the probation period

Qualifications

Education

  • Post-secondary education in Project Management or Construction Management preferred (Bachelor's degree or equivalent).
  • A degree or diploma in Project Management, Construction Management, or Civil Technology is preferred.
  • Additional certifications, such as CAPM or PMP, are considered a strong asset.
  • Industry experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in civil construction industry.
  • Hands-on experience with civil earthworks, including road construction, underground utilities, excavation, and site preparation.
  • Proven ability to estimate civil and earthworks projects
  • Minimum 2 years in a project foreperson or coordinator role.
  • Experience in landscape and concrete projects is an asset.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project, and Adobe PDF.
  • Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and project documentation.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities to manage schedules, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with clients, teams, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles.
