Job Summary

The Lathe operator is responsible for machining intricate parts and tooling using precise calculations for various products. This position reports directly into the Production Supervisor while working a straight day shift schedule (Mon-Fri, 7:00am - 4:30pm)

Salary Range: $34 - 38/hour

Principal Responsibilities
  • Plan and layout work assignments accomplishing with maximum efficiency.
  • Responsible to inspect materials ensuring quality before beginning a job.
  • Maintain inventory control with regards to removal and return of inventory to stock.
  • Read and apply pipe specifications including min. and max. OD and wall thickness, ovalness allowances, pressure ratings and bell and socket measurements.
  • Effectively use precision measuring equipment including vernier calipers, micrometers and average OD tapes.
  • Machine items out of PVC, CPVC, PP, PE, PVDF, ABS, Polycarbonate, FRP, Acrylic and some aluminum or steel.
  • Correctly use PVC, CPVC, ABS and Acrylic understanding the different types of solvent weld cement.
  • Participate and maintain the 5S program. Maintain good housekeeping around the work area.
  • Performs necessary administrative functions related to the position.
  • Will be required to function in other capacities as directed by the direct supervisor.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School education or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in manufacturing is helpful
  • License or certification as a General Machinist (429A) is a strong asset
  • Must have the ability to machine threads of various sizes.
  • Proficient in the operation of a lathe to include an understanding of different cutting tips, tooling and applications used on the lathe.
  • Capable of reading minor drafted drawings.
  • Math skills including trigonometry, geometry and fractions.
  • Accurate use of all powered cutting equipment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices in a manufacturing environment

Working Conditions

Incumbent spends almost 100% of their time in a plant environment requiring varying degrees of considerable physical labor. Lifting, pulling, pushing heavy objects, standing and walking cover majority of work. Personal safety is affected by exposure to heat, dust, noise levels and the use of equipment such as sharp blades and presses. Moderate amount of sensory attention is required. Limited control of work pace and unexpected workflow brings moderate stresses to this position.
