You'll Do:

  • Provide leadership as the mill's primary contact for technical issues relating to thickness, panel size, strength, and rigidity of products, customer complaints, and product development
  • Conduct new product development and testing
  • Routinely identify and implement cost-saving opportunities in the board manufacturing process
  • Monitor the key properties of products being produced to ensure they meet quality standards
  • Track, prioritize, and assign responsibilities for process improvement projects that improve EH&S, quality, throughput, and product costs
  • Set and monitor operational control limits of heat energy, drying and pressing machinery to produce quality products at expected production levels
  • Monitor and adjust key process variables that affect raw material usage ensuring raw material usage is at expected levels and meets or exceeds cost forecasts
  • Interface with and maintain strong working relationships with production and maintenance teams. Provide leadership to troubleshoot operating and maintenance issues affecting quality or production
  • Continuously improve the operation by staying current with new technologies, implementing best practices, identifying non-value-added elements and modelling continuous process improvement

You have:

  • Bachelor of Wood Science preferred; Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working with wood and adhesives in the development and manufacturing of engineered lumber
  • Develop methods or procedures to gain efficiency and margin improvement
  • Ability to define and communicate expectations and then hold people accountable
  • People and team-building skills
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Leading and setting the example with safety
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships and maintain them over time
  • Analyze data to make informed critical decisions

Compensation Package:

  • The salary range for this position may vary depending on experience, education, and location.
