We're Hiring!

We are now accepting applications for a Family Support Worker to join the new West Kootenay CYSN Parenting Support Program.

The CYSN Parenting Support program will provide intensive wraparound support to families through outreach, in their home, and in community settings. The program addresses the intensity and complexity of support often required by families with children and youth with complex support needs.

The supports provided through this program are intended to be temporary and associated with specific goal-oriented child and family outcomes.

Hours / Schedule:

Part-time, permanent position, averaging 23-hours per week.

To augment the hours of this part-time position, employment could include complementary work in another agency program in the future.

Service hours will be delivered on a flexible basis and include evening and weekend hours to accommodate the needs of the program and / or clients served.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Developing and maintaining family-centered partnerships with parents, community professionals and others.
  • Supporting parents and siblings of referred children / youth through a range of scenarios including diagnosis, readiness for service, family dynamics, co-parenting, and sibling relationships.
  • Helping parents understand the strengths, needs, abilities and preferences of their child; and making recommendations / creating goals relevant to the child's individual needs and capabilities.
  • Providing parent education, skill building / development and coaching to help parents implement strategies and recommendations.
  • Empowering parents, and celebrating parenting achievements.
  • Creating or increasing natural support networks for the child / youth in their community.
  • Providing practical supports and adaptations required to stabilize families through times of transition.
  • Assisting with the creation and implementation of specific child / youth centred plans, and behavioural strategies.
  • Connecting families to relevant community resources, and encouraging / facilitating ongoing engagement with existing services and supports.
  • Helping families to navigate funding applications, referral forms and other paperwork, and (if applicable) to use autism funding effectively.
  • Attending appointments as requested, and coordinating transportation as required.
  • Participating in integrated case management and planning meetings.

Preferred Education and Experience:

A degree in a relevant discipline (BSW / BA-Child and Youth Care / BA – Psychology) and one year of experience is desired.

Candidates with a diploma in a relevant position (HSW or similar) and a minimum of 3-years relevant experience will be considered.

Relevant experience includes previous positions in:

  • CYSN community support services'
  • Parenting support and education (CYSN specific) services
  • CYSN Child and Youth Worker

To be successful in your role, you'll also need:

  • To provide services with an anti-oppressive, trauma informed lens.
  • Knowledge and a demonstrated understanding of strengths-based family systems and attachment-based support.
  • The ability to establish trusting relationships with children, youth, and families.
  • Experience working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • To be well-versed in child development, developmental delays, neurodiversity, ASD, FASD and complex support needs.
  • To be aware of / connected with services available for children / youth with support needs, and the process for accessing these services.
  • To demonstrate excellent interpersonal and verbal / written communication skills.
  • To be detail-oriented, organized and efficient.
  • To be skilled at managing multiple concurrent projects, assignments and tasks requested from multiple sources.
  • The ability to function independently, and frequently under pressure.

Other Requirements:

Given the nature of our work, please note that all shortlisted candidates:

  • Need a valid BC Driver's License, regional insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Must undergo a screening process, including a criminal record search.

Wage / Benefits:

$28.75 - $30.25 per hour to start, based on experience and education.

Upon successful completion of a trial period, this position is eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP or TFSA contributions); as well as accrued vacation and sick time at 5.8% - above BC Employment Standards!
