Independent Living Services Simcoe County (ILS) is seeking Attendants/PSW's to provide personal support for activities of daily living to our clients in their home.

Part-time and full-time positions, as well as casual hours are available across Simcoe County including:

What you would be doing:

  • Travel to and from clients' home within an established schedule/time period
  • Provide client-directed, personal-care duties, including:
    • personal grooming and hygiene
    • bathing and washing
    • meal preparation, etc.
    • rising and retiring
    • any specialized care such as G Tube, bowel and bladder care
    • positioning, transfers and general mobility needs
    • light household duties such as housework, laundry, shopping
  • Operate mobility devices (e.g. transfer board, lifts, etc.) to aid in the lift/transfer of clients according to the established guidelines for the safe and proper usage of such equipment
  • Document the services you provided and other information as required on an agency provided smart phone
  • Interact with the client, the caregiver and other members of a client's support network in a professional and respectful manner
  • Ensure confidentiality of client information at all times
  • Attend and actively participate in training and development opportunities offered by ILS, including CPR /First Aid Certification training
  • Participate in all regularly scheduled staff meetings
  • Perform all tasks in a manner that promotes health and safety and reduces the risk of hazard to self and others

What you bring:

  • Personal Support Worker Certificate or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • 1-2 years demonstrated work experience and sound practical knowledge in working with physically disabled individuals and/or seniors
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written English
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to organize work and work independently
  • Ability to operate related equipment including technology (smart phone)
  • Commitment to the health and safety of clients and co-workers
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships
  • Professionalism, empathy, and objectivity

and last, but not least, an energetic and positive attitude!

Required:

  • Ability to work all shifts, every other weekend, and statutory holidays, as scheduled.
  • Reliable transportation and Valid Driver's License
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Proof of COVID vaccination (two doses)

This position is part of SEIU Local 1 Canada.
