Job Description

The successful candidate, as part of the Corporate Purchasing team, will be responsible for purchasing products, services, and materials needed for Canam's steel fabrication operations across all our plants. This position may be based at any of our Canadian facilities. The Strategic Buyer plays a key role in optimizing the procurement process and contributing to the company's competitive advantage. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Forecast global requirements;
  • Resolve issues in the areas of requisition accuracy and completeness, on-time delivery, or supplier payment terms and conditions;
  • Liaise with departmental partners regarding the lead time required to receive parts and materials needed for projects;
  • Search for alternatives or corrective measures with suppliers as needed;
  • Work with the accounting team to resolve invoicing issues;
  • Comply with purchasing policies and procedures;
  • Manage supply chain risks and the actions to secure the supply chain;
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with vendors to ensure the timely acquisition and delivery of products and services;
  • Ensure control activities, upon receipt of product, are carried out according to the established standards;
  • Prepare purchase orders by verifying specifications, price and delivery;
  • Ensure the satisfaction of internal customers;
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of both;
  • Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, with Lean Manufacturing;
  • Knowledge of materials and processes used in steel fabrication, or other commodities, is an asset;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and the ability to influence others;
  • A strong focus on customer service;
  • Demonstrated skills in organization, problem-solving, negotiation, analysis, and decision-making;
  • Experience with Google Workspace, advanced knowledge of Excel, and practical experience with an ERP or other business planning systems preferred;
  • Candidates must be fluent in both French and English.
