The Opportunity
As a Senior Accountant in the Operational Support Team at Pomerleau Construction, you will take a leading role in managing the accounting processes that ensure the financial health and smooth operation of our large-scale building and infrastructure projects, ranging from $1.5 million to over $1 billion. You will oversee the collection, coordination, and verification of accounting data, and ensure the accuracy of project accounts while supporting the accounts payable teams in payment management. This position is ideal for an experienced accountant looking to expand their expertise in a leadership capacity within the construction industry.
What YOU Will Do
- Oversee the maintenance of general and auxiliary accounting records
- Perform daily reconciliation of subsidiary accounts, including suppliers, customers, and employees
- Record and review cash transactions and bank activities
- Investigate and escalate accounting anomalies and discrepancies to the Chief Accountant
- Conduct bank reconciliations
- Manage fixed asset and IFRS 16 entries
- Oversee and ensure accuracy of journal entries
- Take a lead role in month-end and year-end closing activities, including establishing lists of accrued expenses and prepaid items
- Assist in the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations
- Provide support during internal and external financial audits
- Analyze balance sheet accounts and make recommendations for improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accounting best practices and financial accuracy across projects
What YOU Will Bring
- DEC in Accounting or equivalent
- 5 to 7 years of experience in a similar accounting role, preferably within the construction industry
- Proficiency in SAP and the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration across departments
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of accounting functions and lead process improvements

The expected salary range for this opportunity is $82,000 - $110,000. Please note that salaries may vary depending on the candidate's experience and geographical location. Listed compensation is exclusive of bonus and in addition to our extensive employee benefits program which is listed above. Availability of certain benefits may vary based on the specific job role.
