The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.

Position

The Planning Lead is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG's dynamic team. You will be responsible for managing the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) Contractor on behalf of the Company to ensure that all project activities are planned, scheduled, and executed in alignment with the Company's objectives and contractual requirements. This role involves developing comprehensive project plans, monitoring progress, and ensuring all project milestones and deadlines are met. The Planning Lead will work closely with the Company, EPC contractor, project managers, stakeholders, and team members to coordinate efforts, manage resources, and drive successful project outcomes. The successful candidate reports directly to the Project Controls Manager and will play an essential part in supporting the Company's engineering and senior management team through the project's construction phase.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules, including tasks, milestones, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with the company's overall project timeline and objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with EPC contractors to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, and identify the necessary resources for task completion.
  • Track project progress, monitor deviations from the schedule, and update project plans to reflect any changes in scope, timeline, or resources.
  • Prepare and present regular status reports to company and internal stakeholders, ensuring clear and timely communication.
  • Identify potential project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and communicate risk management plans to company and EPC contractors.
  • Facilitate regular project meetings to ensure effective coordination among team members and EPC contractors.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration across project teams, addressing any resource constraints or issues, and ensuring optimal utilization of personnel, equipment, and materials.
  • Oversee the EPC contractor's resource management and compliance with project requirements, including conducting regular reviews and audits to ensure quality and adherence to contractual obligations, industry standards, and project requirements.
  • Address non-compliance issues promptly and effectively, and evaluate project planning and scheduling processes to recommend improvements and incorporate best practices and lessons learned from previous projects.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in project planning and scheduling to continuously enhance project management practices.

Requirements

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in project management, engineering, business administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in project planning, scheduling, and management, involving EPC contractors, controls with heavy budgeting, cost forecasting, change management, cost estimating, scheduling and risk management experience.
  • 15+ years of project experience in major capital projects in the oil and gas industry, LNG project experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, PRISM, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • PMP or other relevant project management certification is a plus.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams and contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset.
  • Communication/interpersonal skills – interacting with front-line workers through to management and all hierarchical levels.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • The position is based in Squamish, BC (Project Site), with an initial stay period at the EPC contractor's Office in Houston, and a visit to the Company's Vancouver Office as required.
