We're looking for someone who's hungry to help turn The Georgia Straight into one of Vancouver's biggest publications again.

The Straight started in the 1967 as the news, lifestyle, and entertainment alt-weekly newspaper in Vancouver. Over the decades, it grew to become a cultural institution in the city, covering the arts and entertainment scene, being a critical voice on city affairs, and highlighting the movers and shakers building the city. Today, we focus on all things arts and events, and reach hundreds of thousands of locals through our website, email newsletters, print newspapers, and social media channels.

We're looking for a goal-oriented, driven, and hungry sales rep to connect The Straight's audiences with businesses looking for local marketing and advertising solutions. We're looking for someone with a strong background in sales and business development with a keen understanding of media and the importance of community news.

This is a remote position based in Metro Vancouver.

About you:

  • You have strong sales or business development experience, with a track record of negotiating and closing deals.
  • You have deep knowledge of digital marketing and the ability to craft smart strategies for clients.
  • You have the ability to think on the fly and work in a fast-paced, always changing environment.
  • You're savvy with digital tools and can learn quick (some of what we use: Hubspot, Google Workspace, Slack, Beehiiv, Google Analytics).
  • You bring an entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to be a self-starter, are self-motivated, and are not afraid of challenges.
  • You have excellent communication and presentation skills, and an eye for detail.
  • You have proven customer service experience – people love you.

In this role you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Own the whole cycle of advertising partnerships, from prospecting to pitching to closing to retaining (together with the publisher).
  • Create and build relationships with local and regional brand partners.
  • Produce and deliver compelling presentations and media plans.
  • Compile and analyze data to find trends.
  • Work with internal team to develop sales and marketing strategies.
