The Town of Tillsonburg is looking to hire a Fleet Technician 310T/310S who will be responsible to provide effective, timely, cost-effective diagnosis, testing and repair to light duty vehicles and gasoline powered small equipment utilized by the Town of Tillsonburg, as well as follow all laws and acts that govern the industry and to engage in the accumulation of information, knowledge and techniques pertaining to the rapid advancements in technology and regulations related to the service industry.

- Perform diagnostics, testing, repair and adjustments on gasoline powered equipment.
- Remove and replace, disassemble and reassemble, repair and adjust transmissions, clutches, axles and driveline components, etc.
- Remove and replace, disassemble and reassemble, repair and adjust foundation brakes and components.
- Diagnose, repair and maintain electrical, lighting, fuel, exhaust, air conditioning, emission controls and computer-controlled systems on light duty vehicles.
- Perform preventive maintenance programs to prolong equipment life and minimize downtime.
- Perform all repairs and inspections per accepted safety and quality standards required by the Fleet Maintenance Foreperson, Manager of Public Works and all governing bodies.
- Maintain maintenance records as required under the Highway Traffic Act and CVOR Legislation and any other governing bodies or agencies.
- Working knowledge of computerized mechanical diagnostic tools
- Extensive knowledge of legislation, regulations and industry standards
- Identify health and safety hazards or concerns and maintain all work areas in a safe, clean condition at all times.
- Aware of safe work practices relating to job responsibilities.
- Perform multi-functional Preventive Maintenance programs.
- Initiate cost savings wherever possible.
- Attend conferences and seminars, when approved, to keep abreast of changes and methods of operation in order to ensure that the department will maintain and where appropriate improve the level of service to the community.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures for the Town.
- Assists other operations departments as required.
- Performs other duties as required by changes to business processes or legislation and other duties as assigned by manager.
- Exposure to unpleasant odors, dust, noise, fumes, etc.
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or equivalent.
- 310S and 310T Certificate of Qualification as per the Skilled Trades Ontario.
- Possession of a valid D Class drivers' licence with Z endorsement is a requirement.
- 3 – 5 years demonstrated experience Heavy Duty equipment repair.
- Light duty vehicle repair or related experience required.
- Alternate Fuels ICE-P Propane Technician issued by TSSA.
- Alternate Fuels ICE-NG Natural Gas Technician issued by TSSA.
- Knowledge of Electric Vehicle operations and charging stations technologies is desirable.
- Working knowledge and experience in computerized applications specific to the industry and/or Municipal fleet servicing.
- Experience in powered hand tools and small equipment diagnosis and repair.
- Experience in hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Knowledge and experience with fuel station reconciliation and site operations is a definite asset
- TSSA Certified Site Operator.
- Knowledge of Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) in working with automotive refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
- Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) certified.
- Fork Lift Licence is a requirement.
- Mobile Crane Certification (up to 8 tons) is a requirement.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Overhead Crane training and awareness is a requirement.
- Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, diagnostic flow charts and written repair instructions.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety practices and legislation, whether it be Town policies or Ontario Health and Safety Act Legislation and the ability to obtain PHSA/OHSA certification.
- Computer literate in MS Office, Windows, Internet, etc. with ability to open, read and comprehend electronic messaging (i.e. Outlook)
- Ability to work safely, individually and within a team environment.
- Ability to work with tight deadlines, take initiative and solve problems.
- Willingness to upgrade skills through training seminars and related courses.
- Proficient use and operation of computers, tablets, electronic devices and various software applications and programs.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation, interpersonal, consultative, problem-solving, analytical, presentation skills and contract administration.
- Must be able to stretch, lift, bend, and work in awkward positions
- Must be able to respond to on-call fleet service requests after hour
- Thorough knowledge of and skill in welding and fabricating is a definite asset.
- Working from Heights training is a definite asset.
- Confined Space training is a definite asset.
- Standard First Aid, CPR and AED are assets.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in extreme hot and cold temperatures.
