SAGKEENG CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (SCFS) is looking for a FULL-TIME Occupational Therapist. You practice empathy, understanding and patience. You promote a safe therapeutic environment. You will be joining a creative, initiative, and dynamic multi-disciplinary team. You are knowledgeable of SCFS, Sagkeeng First Nation and Indigenous culture. This position reports to SCFS Biidaaziiway Gamik Unit Clinical Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts comprehensive mental health assessments.
  • Provides observation and assessment of children presenting with mental health issues in the community and school setting.
  • Consults with school staff and school-based mental health professionals regarding the implementation of interventions related to behavior, social skills, emotional stress, or trauma.
  • Conducts live in-classroom coaching of educators and school staff on implementation of strategies to promote school success.
  • Provides children, family, and caregivers mental health education.
  • Facilitates class-wide workshops focused on resilience-building mental health modules drawn from cognitive-behavioral techniques.
  • Provides training workshops in various settings.
  • Participates in the clinical delivery of the team's clinical services, including developing individual service plans and coordinating community resources to maximize optimal mental health outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree in a mental health related field such as Occupational Therapy (MOT), Psychology (M.A. Psych (Clinical or ABA), M.Ed Psych) or Social Work (MSW) from an accredited post-secondary school.
  • Must be licensed/registered with their respective licensing/regulatory body.
  • Minimum 2 years recent and relevant experience in child, adolescent and family mental health.
  • Demonstrated working experience with the school system.
  • Exceptional clinical skills in the mental health assessment and treatment of children as well as their families.
  • Extensive knowledge of provincial mental health community resources and services.
  • Knowledge and awareness of cultural and socio-economic factors that inform service provision.
