Designer With A Heart: You're a talented designer with a passion for resolving user pain points and barriers through great user-centered design. You've got a solid track record of creating intuitive e-commerce experiences that improve conversion rates and sell more products. You're a seasoned pro at crafting wireframes, annotations, and prototypes. If that sounds like you, then you might have what it takes to be our new UX/UI Designer.

This job will give you ALL the feels:

At AlgaeCal, we're driven by a single idea. To end the fear of bone loss. In the United States, an estimated 54 million people have low bone density.

The good news? AlgaeCal has the world's only clinically-backed natural solution to this problem. We give hope to everyone worried about bone loss. If that excites you, you'll find no better place to continue your career than at AlgaeCal.

Here's what you'll be up to in this busy role:

  • You're business minded. And you understand the absolute need to provide the user the right information, at the right time, in the right way, so that they ultimately get the information they need to become an AlgaeCal customer for life!
  • You'll be the go-to resource for our website re-platform project, handling everything from user flow charts and journey mapping to wireframing and prototyping.
  • You'll dive into user testing on platforms like UserTesting and Userlytics, while also analyzing behavioral data from tools like GA4 and Microsoft Clarity, to make data-driven design decisions that enhance the user experience.
  • You'll work closely with the development team, applying your foundational knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JS frameworks (Vue, React, Vanilla) to ensure designs are seamless and ready for development.
  • You'll be responsible for low and high-fidelity prototyping, creating interactive prototypes for development teams, and conducting UX research to understand customer behaviors and optimize their journey across all touchpoints.
  • You'll facilitate smooth handoffs to the development team, structuring and maintaining cross-department processes to ensure the design vision is executed flawlessly.

In other words, this important role is all about creativity, attention to detail, and effective collaboration—ready to take it on?

This job might be for you if you've got…

  • A portfolio that wows us. We're looking for proven results—specifically, how your past UX/UI design work led to increased conversion rates and opt-ins. In other words, we want to see how your design skills directly impacted sales. You should have at least 3 years of experience. Your application will not be accepted without a portfolio.
  • Proven skills in creating interactive prototypes using industry-standard tools (Figma) that effectively communicate interaction design and functionality to development teams. Ensuring smooth handoff and minimal miscommunication.
  • Degree or Diploma in Graphic Design, Web Design, UI/UX Design, or a design-related field.
  • Front-End Development Knowledge. You won't be doing a lot of coding in this role. But we'd like you to have a basic understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and front-end frameworks like Vue and React.
  • A deep understanding of engaging UI, typography, and visual design culture.
  • Page Builder Experience: We're hoping you've got experience designing for platforms like WordPress, Webflow, and Shopify.
  • User Testing and Analytics: Ability to work with user testing SaaS platforms (UserTesting, Userlytics) and analytics tools like GA4 and Microsoft Clarity to inform design decisions.
  • Proficiency in Design and Development Tools: Photoshop, XD, & After Effects. Additionally, experience with front-end workshop tools like Storybook or Patternlab is required.
  • Next level Figma skills. No exceptions—you need to know Figma inside and out to thrive in this role.
  • Familiarity with atomic design principles and maintaining/updating internal design systems.
  • A friendly way of collaborating with stakeholders in the ideation process.
  • A solid understanding of marketing/advertising techniques.
  • Experience working in an e-Commerce environment.

Now, time to be honest: is this really you? If you're nodding your head and feeling that flutter of excitement, then we can't wait to meet you.

Other Qualities You'll Need

At AlgaeCal we're going to insist that you have these 3 qualities:

  • You're humble--you put the team and others' needs ahead of your own
  • You're hungry to learn more
  • You're people smart--in the sense that you're a great teammate

The truth is, if you don't have these qualities you won't last long at AlgaeCal. So if you're missing one of them, be honest. Save yourself a lot of headaches and skip to a job posting that is a better fit for you.

What Will You Earn?

We believe in rewarding top talent. Let's talk about salary once we've had the chance to get to know you better. Rest assured, we're generous and offer above-market pay for the right person. If you bring the skills and experience, we'll make sure the compensation reflects that.

  • A generous healthcare package
  • Monthly team events and activities
  • Flexible Stat Holidays with the option to bank days for later use
  • Weekly team lunches

  • Incredible dog friendly, Yaletown office one block from SkyTrain

And above all, you'll join a team that you'll never want to leave. Culture is everything to us. Yes, we work extremely hard to change as many people's lives as possible. But we know how to have fun and reward ourselves too.
