POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for managing the manufacturing engineering team at all Carfair sites. Provides technical support to Production teams. Works with the Manufacturing Engineering teams in ensuring processes are being followed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead and manage the manufacturing engineering team to ensure they are providing their deliverables as defined on the manufacturing engineering visibility board and to corporate standards and expectations.
  • Ensure policies and processes are established and followed to ensure goals and objectives for all regulatory and legal requirements are met with respect to Health, Safety & Environmental programs.
  • Ensure product manufacturing processes are standardized and completed safely across all Carfair plants.
  • Demonstrate a relentless passion for process optimization and efficiency gains.
  • Ensures PCRs are being reviewed and interpreted appropriately by the manufacturing engineering team and direction is being provided to production, QA, and the material groups to support these changes.
  • Provide manufacturing engineering support to production, QA, customer service and other areas as required.
  • Work effectively as a member of the manufacturing management team to ensure operational metrics are achieved and any remedial action is actively pursued.
  • Lead assigned groups and project teams on continuous improvement activities using lean concepts and tools.
  • Review tasks and project assignments and balances the workload between group members to meet deadlines.
  • Ensure that manpower assignments are being planned by cell and are communicated to production in advance.
  • Ensure the manufacturing engineers in each cell are assigning locators for active parts, maintaining inventory maps for their area, and are supporting materials in improving material flow and resolving issues.
  • Evaluate assigned employees and initiate corrective action where required.
  • Initiates, evaluate and approves Standard Work Instructions and other documents as required.
  • Specify and facilitate capital and equipment upgrades, installations or modifications and ensures approved projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop departmental budgets, ensures departmental spending is within budgeted levels and accounts for any deviations to the approved budget.
  • Supports and also facilitates lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, value stream mapping, set-up reduction etc.) as required.
  • Promote an environment of continuous improvement and teamwork.
  • Ensure that manufacturing engineering is effectively participating in team meetings, ensuring that necessary action is taken between cross functional groups to resolve issues.
  • Ensure process observations are conducted by each manufacturing engineer within their cell to ensure that assigned time standards are fair and consistent and manufacturing issues are identified and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Maintain necessary labour resource plans (such as the labour matrix).
  • Monitor high level routings and submit routing change requests to process planning where appropriate.
  • Works closely with the Engineering Manager, Director of Manufacturing Engineering and Facilities Manager in establishing and following metrics.
  • Ensures the manufacturing engineers are participating in Non-Conforming Parts (NCP) meetings as assigned.
  • Initiates engineering change requests (ECRs) where appropriate.
  • Support process planning and production engineering.
  • Responsible to ensure all key controls identified under their area of responsibility are designed and operating as outlined in the internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Ensure policies and processes are established and adhered to ensure goals and objectives for all regulatory and legal requirements are met including organizational quality, environmental, health & safety programs.
  • Other duties as assigned, including special projects.


WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFULL:

  • Manufacturing engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree/diploma or CET and/or related courses & work experience.
  • Lean and/or APICS certification or applicable equivalent work experience.
  • Working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working as an effective team player.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience with Auto Cad and Oracle are desired.
