About the Organization:

First Nations Technical Services Advisory Group Inc. (TSAG) is a not-for-profit provider of quality technical service and training for First Nations in Alberta. TSAG's purpose is to assist First Nations in gaining the tools and knowledge they need to achieve and maintain high standards in technology and services within the community. This is a full-time position including weekends and will be located in Edmonton, Alberta.

Nature of the Work:

This role will support the Alberta Indigenous Virtual Care Clinic with quantitative data collection and analysis. This position exercises a degree of autonomy in research activities but requires the individual to have strong communication and teamwork skills. The research assistant will be required to demonstrate strong organizational and analytical skills; work collaboratively with community, departmental and interdepartmental teams; and work independently in performance of day-to-day activities. This position will work closely with Researchers at the University of Calgary and University of Alberta.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The research assistant will facilitate data collection including survey implementation, support the data analysis process in collaboration with researchers, and contribute to evaluating and writing up the results. The research assistant will liaise with community members, research participants, students and researchers and will have a good understanding of research ethics and procedures. The research assistant will develop and maintain positive relationships with all team and community members.


Qualifications/Expertise Required:
Undergraduate in health-related field (i.e. nursing, health sciences) and/or experience in health care setting or health research in any of the following areas: Indigenous health, health services research, healthy policy or systems, health-related social science research and population/public health.

A graduate degree in health research or a related field is preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge and experience in quantitative research methods is required.

Experience in database management (REDCap preferred) and development of survey tools is required.

Skill in using statistical software (e.g. STATA, SPSS, R) is an asset.

Strong inter-cultural communication skills.

Experience working with Indigenous communities, particularly engaging with community members and/or Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

Experience and knowledge of research ethics procedures is required.

Excellent organization skills, including the ability to work independently and to multitask, and excellent attention to detail a must.

Accountabilities/Tasks and Duties:

Support processes and procedures regarding data collection and participant recruitment for quantitative research tasks including surveys. Ensure team members are up to date and informed on progress and challenges of recruitment.

Work collaboratively and respectfully with Indigenous community partners and health care partners to ensure inclusion of all voices in the design and completion of the research project.

Participate in design and development of research processes including identification of methodologies, recruitment strategies, and data analysis processes.

Manage and maintain comprehensive databases and associated data, including the creation and development of REDCap projects, data collection instruments, performing data entry, quality control and data cleaning, and generating REDCap reports.

Collect, consolidate, export, cross-tabulate and analyze quantitative data (i.e., surveys and clinic data). Analyze data in collaboration with research leads.

Assist with project reports and research dissemination products.

Assist with presentations and posters to be used when presenting to various internal and external stakeholders.

Present reports to project team and stakeholders. Conduct literature reviews, knowledge syntheses and assist with systematic reviews.

Manage own time and project tasks effectively. Demonstrate strong communication, team and interpersonal skills, and an ability to exercise judgment and take initiative to problem solve via conversation with team.
