It's not every day you come across an opportunity to work with a company you can feel good about – in a rewarding environment, working towards a clear and exciting vision, as part of an optimistic, hardworking, and high performing team.

Hutten & Co. is looking for a skilled Horticulturist with at least 5 years of private residential maintenance experience or 3 years of experience with a diploma or certificate in Horticulture, and a desire to grow within an evolving department. Does this sound like you?

As a Property Care Crew Leader, beyond your love of plants, you enjoy taking on the challenge of meeting the job targets – from quality standards to hitting the estimated hours and job costs. You're a seasoned gardener, and are confident mentoring others, providing the necessary training and feedback for success!

From creative craftsmanship in stone and wood, delicate plantings, casual outdoor living, environmental shore solutions, and docking systems, at Hutten & Co. Land and Shore, we create refreshing spaces that connect our rugged land and shores into a place of natural beauty. It's not easy work, but the satisfaction is huge.

We love what we do and want like-minded people to join our team. So, if you're looking for an opportunity to take the next step in your landscape maintenance career, look no further.

As our new Crew Leader you will be responsible for planning and execution, leadership and mentoring, organization and equipment care, safety and quality standards, and project reporting.

If you were working for us, here are some of the things you would have done last week:

  • Supervise, coordinate, and execute on the day to day work activities of a crew of 2-3 people
  • Oversee and complete warranty work according to Client Care packages
  • Regularly communicate with client about ongoing property care requirements and report back to the Account Manager
  • Oversee and complete work at sites ensuring safety, quality, and productivity
  • Edging, spring cleanup of gardens, and mulching
  • Ongoing garden management, weeding and plant care
  • Fall cleanup of gardens and turf and winterization
  • Seasonal and specialized pruning and transplanting
  • Fertilizing and pest management
  • Seasonal colour
  • Irrigation and lighting maintenance services
  • New plantings and garden expansion
  • Improvements such as patio repair, cleaning or drainage
  • Operate various tools and equipment, including compact equipment, chainsaws, blowers, trimmers, pruners, wheelbarrows, measurement equipment, shovels, rakes, horticultural implements, etc.
  • Read and interpret landscape designs and specifications to complete work activities
  • Perform site consultations, technical support, and collaboration with team as required
  • Complete quality assessments of completed services and property inspections
  • Performing onboarding of new staff
  • Complete quarterly performance appraisals on personnel under your care
  • Refine, implement and measure divisional best practices and performance metrics
  • Conduct on-site orientations with new employees and employees in new positions, which cover all company health and safety policies, practices, and procedures
  • Ensure that all work activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner, and that all crew members are in compliance with government and company PPE standards
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork or electronic logs on a daily basis, including: daily site meeting logs, crew daily forms (material/labour planning 4@4), equipment daily inspection forms, attendance tracking, time and materials billing summaries, requests for time off, etc.

Success in this role will be about so much more than just quality work efficiently produced as planned. Just as importantly, it will be about making our customers happy by bringing their visions to life while contributing to our team's growth and people-focused culture through mentoring and training.

This is an incredible opportunity for someone looking to grow in their career, challenge themselves, and take accountability, all while gaining leadership experience.

Working @ Hutten & Co. Land and Shore

We expect strong performance and participation, and in return, work hard to make employment here an exceptional career experience. We offer strong coaching and training, team collaboration, an open book management style, and we celebrate wins together regularly with quarterly parties and company BBQs!

The Details

This is a full-time, seasonal job, working at job sites across the Bruce Peninsula, from Tobermory to Lion's Head, Wiarton, Port Elgin, Sauble Beach, Georgian Bluffs, Meaford, and Markdale. Outside of the Property Care season, there are opportunities to join our Snow department.

We recognize that our ideal candidate may come from outside the area, and so relocation assistance is available. If you're interested in getting away from expensive city living, and the idea of living and working in Ontario's recreational hub excites you, this could be a perfect opportunity to relocate and take advantage of all that Georgian Bay living has to offer.
