Do you love Dogs? Do you enjoy a career that makes a difference? Securiguard is seeking K9 handlers to provide Detection/Protection/Patrol services to our various clients across Canada. Our K9 teams are government certified and licensed in Protection and Explosive or Narcotics Detection. Our advanced teams train with Canadian and U.S. Law Enforcement, the only private K9 Security teams to do so. Our highly skilled teams work in high profile sites including Ports, Airports, Arenas, Industrial Sites and Remote Locations.


** You do not need K9 Experience in order to apply, although it is a bonus. We will train you ** More importantly you must have a passion for working with dogs

Position Summary:

Full Time K9 Protection & Detection Handlers

The Day to Day:

  • Provide K9 Protection support in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide Explosive or Narcotic Detection Support as directed by the K9 Manager which may include searching provisions, vehicles, equipment, air cargo, general facilities etc. in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ability to pass and maintain required industry mandated validations which may take place in other provinces.
  • Ability to Liaise with Governmental agencies such as Transport Canada.
  • Provide and maintain Government mandated reports.
  • Providing Excellent Customer Services
  • Ability to change schedule when needed and have an open availability.
  • Ability to attend mandatory paid K9 maintenance training
  • Prepares and maintains documentation to ensure thorough training of assigned canine.
  • Physically fit with the ability for interior & exterior Patrols as required, including but not restricted to parking lots, stairwells, hallways, common area facilities.
  • Assist and respond to any calls by the Site Operations manager.
  • Coordinating & Liaising with Police and other Emergency Services Providers as Required.
  • Providing detailed reports, including occurrence reports, incident reports, and patrol reports as required.

What you bring:

  • 2+ years of security experience OR a strong customer service background
  • Previous Police, Law Enforcement or Security K9 experience is an asset.
  • Ability to obtain or possess a Transportation Security Clearance
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be willing to travel for training/testing.
  • Must have a class 5 driver's license.
  • Must provide a clean driver's abstract and provide abstracts annually.
  • Must have a valid provincial security license and maintain their security license throughout duration of employment.
  • Must have an open availability.
  • Must be fit to stand/sit/patrol for up to 12 hours per day, carry 50lbs, and walk up and down stairs.
  • Must commit to a 2 month paid K9 training program in Langley, BC - accommodations are provided
  • Must have the ability to work outside during inclement weather.
  • Must ensure that deportment is impeccable (includes cleanliness, neatness, high level of personal hygiene)
  • Maintain care for assigned dog in the field or kennels.
  • The ability to take care of K9 after hours and provide a suitable home and friendly environment for a dog.
  • Must have a suitable vehicle to transport K9 to and from work in an approved crate.
  • Experience and skills to deal with difficult people.
  • Exceptional report writing skills.
  • Customer Service and solutions focused.
  • Ability to work independently or with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to accept direction and guidance (listening skills) following instruction.
