Based in North Bay, the Senior Aquatic Ecologist will report to the Environmental Department Lead and will have a wide range of duties which ultimately focus on environmental assessment, species at risk, and aquatic studies. You will be part of a team that provides practical ecological solutions to industry, government, and private sectors.
What You'll Do:
As part of the Environmental team within TULLOCH Engineering, you will:
  • Design and perform effective aquatic habitat and aquatic biota surveys to meet applicable regulatory or project-specific requirements
  • Apply professional knowledge of industry and multi-disciplinary requirements as they pertain to a project
  • Recommend project-specific procedures and methods based on industry standards and professional experience
  • Coordinate, supervise, and conduct fish and fish habitat project work
  • Manage and coordinate projects, proposals, and permitting applications as a technical lead or project manager
  • Assess project impacts on Natural Heritage features and prepare mitigation strategies to eliminate or reduce those impacts
  • Interpret field data to prepare quality, accurate, and technically sound reports to meet project needs and regulatory requirements
  • Review technical documents, reports, and other deliverables prepared by colleagues to ensure quality control and to provide technical input
  • Ensure efficient and effective use of time and resources to adhere to project budgets and schedules
  • Work collaboratively with different offices and groups
  • Conduct all aspects of business with the utmost respect, honesty, and integrity, including interactions with regulators, clients, and colleagues
  • Support various environmental project work as required

What You Should Bring:
The ideal candidate will have a university degree (Master's degree preferred) in Ecology, Biology, or a related program. Additionally, you should bring:
  • 7-10 years of experience working in a related role, preferably with consulting experience
  • Proficiency with standard to advanced statistical analytical tools (proficiency with R preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to design and perform studies in aquatic ecology (Study design and project management experience is an asset)
  • Applied knowledge of fish and fish habitat
  • Applied knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation
  • Experience conducting fish community and population assessments
  • Experience in field survey design and coordination
  • High motivation with results-oriented focus
  • Superior organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Unwavering commitment to health and safety in the workplace
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Valid Class G driver's licence
  • Assets for this position include: experience supervising and directing junior technical staff; MTO/DFO/MNRF fisheries protocol training; RAQS certification for Fisheries Assessment or Fisheries Contracts Specialty; and/or a ROM fish identification course.
