We are looking for an Assistant Plant Superintendent for our Scarborough location. Reporting to the Mill Manager will assist in directing all safety, quality and productivity requirements for the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with, a team of hourly unionized associates, to optimize KPI targets for safety, quality and productivity and ensure total customer satisfaction
  • Ensure that all Company and OH&S regulations, policies and procedures are adhered to, while fostering safe behaviours, a drive towards zero injuries and a proactive accident/incident investigation and reporting protocol
  • Spending significant time on the floor, creating SOP's and working with the crews to develop consistent approaches to challenges
  • Lead significant quality, production, productivity and initiatives and incorporate improvements into daily results management systems
  • Develop and implement quality procedures and preventative activities that measurable reduce the risk of producing non-conforming product.
  • Identify and lead production and continuous improvement initiatives where cost/shrink can be reduced while maximizing quality, productivity and growth
  • Ensure quality standards are met on all raw materials and finished products and follow up with corrective actions and communications when necessary.
  • Interact daily and establish close partnerships with all functional departments including Sales, Operations, Planning, Shipping and health and Safety/Human Resources
  • Active involvement and participation in continuous improvement activities, special projects, trials and report preparation as required by Senior Management
  • Ensure full compliance to Atlantic Operating Systems (AOS)
  • Responsible for overseeing all paper machine operations in the absence of the Superintendent
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience with a preference for the pulp and paper industry
  • An Engineering Degree with preference in Mechanical, Chemical or Civil engineering
  • Strong leadership, communication and critical thinking skills
  • Experience within the corrugated, paperboard or packaging industry
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to compile reports and present at meetings
  • Ability to liaise with all levels of management and employees
