Community Hub Assistant, Volunteer

We are currently seeking Community Hub Assistants to work as needed on evenings and weekends to assist with rental groups, classes, fitness centre monitoring, and events going on at YW. As an ambassador for YW, the Community Hub Ambassador plays a critical part in greeting people, understanding what their needs may be, supporting them in making the right connection, and aiding when the client/public needs are not clear. This position works independently or as part of a team and is critical in supporting successful events and experiences.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Assist in room set-up as per rental group requirements, including moving furniture
  • Greet and/or direct people as they enter
  • Understand YW donation and fundraising opportunities and supporting with receiving and completing the process at the desk or provide referrals for gift-in-kind donations
  • Access, streamline and update Welcome Desk procedures on an ongoing basis
  • Answer main phone and direct calls to the appropriate individuals or programs
  • Support courier arrangements as needed
  • Notify YW team members of guest arrival
  • Assist with YW Fitness tours and membership sales

SHIFTS AVAILABLE

  • Daytime, evenings, and weekends, as required based on rental calendar and requests
  • Mornings: (8:00 am to 12:00 pm)
  • Lunch: (between 11:30am to 1:30pm)
  • Afternoons: (12:00 pm – 4:00pm)
  • This position is at the front reception and will experience high volume of inquiries and interruptions

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE A VOLUNTEER

  • Resume and application
  • Participate in interview process, including reference checks
  • Time commitment: minimum of one 4 hours shift each week. Shift times are weekdays between 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • A clear Police Information Check clearance, including a Vulnerable Sector Search clearance; Child Intervention Check clearance
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • You approach work and others through the lens of equity, diversity and inclusivity
  • Ability to adapt readily and respond to various customer needs and changing environments
  • Ability to handle high pressure situations
  • Quick to learn new processes, programs and procedures
