LaPrairie Crane, a member of the LaPrairie Group of Companies, is recruiting a full-time Heavy-Duty Mechanic to join its growing mechanical maintenance team in Fort McMurray, AB.

LAPRAIRIE Group of Companies, established in 1982 as a one-crane, two-man operation in Tumbler Ridge, BC, has grown into a successful, group of companies employing over 600 local employees and offering full turnkey services within the mobile crane and rigging, heavy hauling, highway and bridge maintenance, frac sand mining, processing and distribution service sectors. This 100% Canadian, and family-owned group of companies services the Canadian and North Eastern USA markets through its various subsidiaries: LAPRAIRIE Crane, LAPRAIRIE Haul, LAPRAIRIE Works, LAPRAIRIE Oilfield, CAPSTAN Hauling, ENTREC, LAPRAIRIE Rock, and Canadian Silica Industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspecting cranes, trucks, trailers, and other heavy equipment for proper performance.
  • Diagnosing faults using computerized testing equipment.
  • Adjusting equipment and replacing faulty parts.
  • Repairing damaged equipment parts.
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty and automotive vehicles.
  • Repairing and servicing machine attachments.
  • Performing major repair work when necessary.
  • Driving to various job sites.
  • Consulting with other Mechanics and Supervisor when needed.

Desired skills and Experience:

  • Journeyman Trade Certification/Red Seal as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
  • Valid Alberta Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) license.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic or related role.
  • Must have a Class 5 driver's license.
  • Proven work experience with diesel or heavy equipment.
  • Understanding of computer testing technologies.
  • Ability to lift heavy machinery.
  • Extensive knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic & electrical systems, and construction equipment.
  • Ability to work after-hours if required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Applicants must be able to supply their own tools.
  • A successful applicant will have their own local accommodations in Fort McMurray and will be willing to work a 2 week on 2 week off shift.
  • A member of Local 955 in good standing is preferred.
