Through our Withdrawal Management Program, we provide a safe environment for clients as they experience withdrawal symptoms; ensuring a calm, respectful and supportive environment as clients undertake the difficult work of moving forward in their recovery journeys.

As part of this multi-disciplinary team, you will support clients in a short-term residential setting by providing crisis management and encouragement while ensuring a calm and respectful environment for all.

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

  • What you'll be making - Starting rate for this role is $29.57 per hour (Level 1 of the Direct Service, Regulated Professional Grid);
    • Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8, $36.71 per hour
    • Internal applicants will be placed on the grid based on their seniority
  • When you'll work - 70 hours over a two-week period; Rotating Days/Afternoons; including evenings and weekends; including a paid 30 minute meal break
  • Your benefits will be - 9% in lieu of benefits
  • Your pension plan - Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

  • Responsible for screening, assessment and provision of nursing interventions and supports to individuals referred to the Withdrawal Management Beds.
  • Collaborate with addiction and mental health service providers to support the needs of clients who may be in crisis and needing supervised withdrawal management support
  • Supporting intake services
  • Support the addiction medicine treatment plan
  • Promote Withdrawal Management Services to healthcare professionals, clients and the community and develop or extend expertise
  • Participate in reporting requirements
  • Assist with program development, implementation and evaluation
  • Assists clients in taking responsibility for and managing their health needs according to available resources and personal skills
  • Collaborates with community agencies to maintain coordination in the treatment process
  • Identifies high risk clients and assess the need for crisis intervention, prioritizing the safety of clients
  • Utilizes harm reduction principles to identify, reduce, and remove risk factors
  • Works collaboratively and cooperatively with clients, families, peers and other care providers in order to provide safe, quality care, that maximizes benefits to the participant
  • Interacts and provides support in a nonjudgmental fashion and provides care that demonstrates sensitivity to participant diversity (e.g. culture, race, age, sexual orientation, gender, beliefs and values)
  • Assists in motivating clients to learn new behaviours and develop coping skills

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements

We require the following qualifications:

  • Diploma in Nursing as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) (Primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e. original degree/diploma or official transcript)
  • Current Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

We prefer the following qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's Licence, adequate insurance and access to a vehicle to carry out job duties
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with electronic medical records, PS Suites preferred
  • ASIST training preferred
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training preferred
  • Nursing experience with a perspective that acknowledges and seeks to improve the impact of the social determinants of health
  • Working knowledge of chemical dependency, including the pathophysiology of substance abuse and withdrawal
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with internal and external contacts including community and facility contacts, staff, physicians, clients, families, agencies
  • Ability to tolerate stress and deal with a wide range of medical, mental health, behavioural and emotional issues
  • First Aid & CPR certification
