Our client, an industry-leading company focused on AI and next-generation computing solutions, is seeking a Senior Director of Hardware Systems Engineering. As a senior leader, you will drive innovation in AI/ML hardware systems, guiding a team of electrical, mechanical, and thermal engineers to deliver cutting-edge products that meet market demands and exceed customer expectations.
This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on technical leader with extensive experience in hardware systems design for complex systems. In this role, you will oversee the entire product lifecycle, from concept to deployment, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery. You will also play a key role in fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment to ensure the continued growth and success of the engineering team.
This role is hybrid, based in Toronto, Canada.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a diverse team of engineers, fostering innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the full product development lifecycle from design, testing, and validation to deployment.
- Recruit, hire, and retain top talent to meet the company's evolving engineering objectives.
- Drive execution of hardware design projects, ensuring that products meet customer and market demands.
- Foster technological innovation within the company by staying ahead of AI/ML hardware trends and identifying opportunities for new product features and improvements.
- Work with program management to develop project plans, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful product delivery.
- Manage customer and factory product issues, overseeing root cause analysis and resolution efforts.
- Plan and manage the hardware engineering budget, ensuring proper resource allocation and tooling for project success.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- 12+ years of experience in hardware systems design for server/switch or complex systems, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
- Strong technical expertise in electrical, mechanical, and thermal system design and validation.
- Proven experience with high-speed PCB board design, validation, and debug, including digital interfaces such as PCIe, USB, Ethernet, and DDR memory.
- Expertise in DFX principles, with a focus on manufacturability, reliability, and cost efficiency in electro-mechanical packaging technologies.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with design tools like SolidWorks and PLM systems such as Arena is a plus.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams of managers and directors, with strong skills in mentorship and collaboration.
