Position Purpose

Responsible for instructing aquatic fitness classes as assigned to standard, as well as constant safety supervision and appropriate paper work / administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15 years of age minimum.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR “C”.
  • Current CALA (Canadian Aquafitness Leadership Association) Instructor, WaterArt Instructor, YMCA Aquafitness Instructor, or other certified aquatic fitness association.
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC), deemed as satisfactory by the Town.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Aquatic Fitness Instructor Position #: SS8

Department: Community Services Division: Recreation Services

Reports To: Aquatics Supervisor Revision Date: August 2023

Job Grade: Sessional

Position Summary

Responsible for instructing aquatic fitness classes as assigned to standard, as well as constant safety supervision and appropriate paper work/administration.

Responsibilities

· Be aware of and comply with all admission policies, regulations and legislations pertaining to the operations of an aquatic facility.

· Provide safe aquatic fitness programs to participants including preparation of workout plans, core plans, and music.

· During the class the instructor is responsible for the safe supervision of the participants, alternate exercises for varying abilities, and positive constructive feedback for all participants.

· Performs or assists with emergency rescues or first aid as necessary.

· Fills out accident/ incident reports as required.

· Attends and participates in all staff training sessions.

· Keeps up to date by checking staff bulletin boards and logbooks to be informed of new information and procedures.

· Fully dressed in staff uniform during all assigned hours.

· Prepared to work flexible hours, including shifts and weekends.

· Reports any facility safety hazards to supervisor on duty or full-time staff.

· Assists with general pool and area upkeep and cleaning as required.

· Promotes positive public relations at all times, enforcing pool rules firmly and tactfully.

· Performs other related duties as assigned that are in accordance with job responsibilities or necessary departmental or corporate objectives.

· Qualifications kept current.
