We are seeking a Controller, reporting to the President.

This role will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of our business, with a focus on supporting our growth strategy. This role will function similarly to that of a controller, ensuring that our financial practices align with our long-term objectives. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive team to provide financial insights, develop budgets, and manage accounting operations. This role is critical in ensuring that our product costing, pricing, and margins support our business goals.

This position is based out of 649 Welham Rd, Barrie, ON L4N 0B7

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday

Base Compensation: $88,000 to $96,000 per annum (flexible based on level of experience)

Key areas of responsibility are:

Financial Strategy & Planning:

  • Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the company's 5-year growth plan
  • Work closely with the Executive team to set financial goals and monitor performance against targets
  • Provide financial analysis and forecasting to support business decision-making

Accounting & Financial Reporting:

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including the preparation of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes

Cost Management & Pricing:

  • Develop and maintain cost accounting systems to accurately capture product costs
  • Analyze product costing data to inform pricing strategies and ensure healthy margins
  • Collaborate with the Product Development team to assess the financial impact of new products or changes to existing products

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, including the development of revenue, expense, and capital expenditure budgets
  • Prepare financial forecasts and scenario analysis to guide business planning
  • Monitor actual performance against budgets and recommend corrective actions as needed

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Manage and mentor the finance team, ensuring their continued professional development
  • As the company grows, build and lead a team capable of supporting the business' evolving financial needs
  • Foster a culture of financial accountability and continuous improvement

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with all financial, legal, and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets
  • Oversee tax planning and compliance, including coordination with external tax advisors

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Preference will be given to those with a CPA or CMA designation
  • A minimum of 8+ years of experience in financial management, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Preference will be given to those who have previous experience supporting in this capacity within a privately owned business with multiple corporate entities
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting, pricing strategies, and margin analysis
  • Excellent analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
  • The ability to translate financial concepts to – and to effectively collaborate with those colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds
  • As a Leader, you are hands-on and an active listener. You are empathetic. You can share clear messages and make complex ideas easy to understand. You are inspirational and are flexible to the needs of others
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and competency to see projects through to completion
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Technologically proficient in accounting software (i.e.: QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook & Teams), advanced Excel skills are a must
  • A mature, self-starter who remains calm under pressure and is comfortable working with minimal oversight and tight deadlines
