ABOUT BARRIE AREA NATIVE ADVISORY CIRCLE (BANAC):

The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle is a regional social planning and development organization. The BANAC service region covers Simcoe County, Muskoka, and the northern York Region. BANAC works in cooperation with communities in areas of concern where coordinated efforts are required to meet the needs which positively impact the region. BANAC will continue in this social planning capacity, offering consultation and support for our community development. BANAC offers many innovative programs and services including Alternative Dispute Resolution, Family Wellness, Childcare, Seniors Care and Long-Term Care, Cultural Services, and wholistic Healthcare Services through the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Indigenous Interprofessional Primary Care Team.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

This is a position that will work with Indigenous community members, and Indigenous / non-Indigenous service providers to strengthen outreach within the team to improve outcomes and services in the aging Indigenous community. A primary focus of this work will be the regional support of the Aging Well Team York Region and South Simcoe, which is an Indigenous and culturally based program implemented to cater and assist the Indigenous aging community. This role also entails scheduling assistance and new clientele onboarding within the program provided from the York and South Simcoe Team.

ROLE RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Support the York Region and South Simcoe team in providing access to Indigenous at home services within the organization and from outside organization partners.
  • Establish and maintain a collaborative relationship between the Aging Well Team, BANAC programs, and Indigenous partner communities to ensure effective service delivery to patients, clients and community members
  • Respond to community needs and deliver access of the Aging Well program within the York Region and South Simcoe areas.
  • Create and maintain long-lasting working relationship with community service organizations to improve access to services for Indigenous community members (i.e., clinics, hospitals, CMHA, etc.)
  • Support team in scheduling and intake process with new clients
  • Assist in onboarding new clients within the region
  • Support with administrative tasks
  • Promotion of the Aging Well Team within York Region and South Simcoe to assist gaps in community care for the aging well team.
  • Support relationships between Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin and community supports of the Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle
  • To make connections with new clientele and current and or potential partners

WHAT YOU BRING:

The ideal candidate will be a skilled, culturally safe with strong attention to detail and organizational skills, a positive attitude that respects Indigenous knowledge and who is at ease balancing competing priorities and meeting seniors where they are at in their cultural journey.

  • Minimum post-secondary education: preference in the area of Indigenous Studies or diploma related to Personal Support Work with a minimum 5 years' experience in Cultural programming and or long term care or outreach and administrative tasks.
  • A combination of skills, education and life learning specific to cultural knowledge may be considered.
  • Experience in facilitation and delivering of services for the aging populations.
  • An authentic understanding, practice and ability to share Indigenous history, culture, traditions, ceremonies and values.
  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies Indigenous core values of respect & kindness.
  • Ability to deliver trauma-informed care and be willing to continue on a journey of learning.

Information About Working at BANAC:

  • Work is typically performed in clinic, office, and community settings.
  • Regular travel to meetings and communities will be required – vehicle an asset.
  • Regular overtime work may be required from time to time, BANAC team members enjoy a flex schedule agreement.
  • Periodic exposure to smoke may occur from the burning of sacred medicines: Tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar.

Specific employment conditions are specified in an employment contract with BANAC and include the following:

  • Worksite location
  • Valid C.P.R. and A.E.D. Certificates required.
  • Valid Class G Ontario Driver's License is required with clear check for vulnerable sector.
