Huronia Transition Homes

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

Huronia Transition Homes is an equity-seeking organization working to end all violence against all women. We work to educate ourselves and our communities on issues of oppression and liberation, in order to create social change. We provide essential services to women in our communities who have experienced violence.

Athena's Sexual Assault Counselling & Advocacy Centre, a program of Huronia Transition Homes, is currently seeking a full-time (40 hours/week) Community Development Coordinator. The Community Development Coordinator is responsible for integrating an intersectional feminist framework and a harm reduction philosophy to develop and raise awareness of the agency and issues related to violence against women throughout Simcoe County. If you are passionate about making positive change in our community, and if you believe that education and advocacy play a critical role in ending all violence against all women, then this might be the role for you!

This is a bargaining unit position working from our Barrie office located at 80 Bradford Street.

The successful candidate must possess:

  • Relevant post-secondary degree in Women's Studies, Social Work, Sociology, or equivalent experience in a related field
  • Solid and demonstrated commitment to anti-racism/anti-oppression, harm reduction and intersectional feminism, and the ability to articulate each competently
  • Excellent communication, presentation, design and writing skills
  • Thorough knowledge of marketing, publicity, advertising, social media, public education and community relations/engagement
  • Event co-ordination experience and public speaking expertise with an ability to creatively engage audiences around violence against women issues
  • An ability to work independently and prioritize event details.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Scheduling flexibility including evenings and weekends
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel within Simcoe County, valid driver's license and reliable vehicle

In keeping with our commitment to represent all our communities, Indigenous women, francophone women, queer-identified and racialized women are especially encouraged to apply. Strong preference will be given to women who are fluent in both French and English.
