Pay Range: $19.87 - 23.95/hours

Job Summary

The Child and Youth Worker will facilitate community-based child and youth programs. The Child and Youth Worker will provide educational services, support and advocacy, and participate in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of age and culturally appropriate programs to help meet the needs of children, youth and their families using a capacity building and health promotion framework.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

• Provide direct service for children ages 6-12 years at an After School Program
• Plan programming that enhances cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development
• Implement, monitor, and evaluate community-based programming
• Provide program statistics to the Child and Youth Community Developer and enter group information into the relevant database
• Provide updates and contact parents, as necessary
• Monitor and maintain/purchase adequate supplies and equipment for programming
• Ensure all program safety measures are being met
• Work closely with and support program staff, volunteers, and student placements

Qualifications

• Must have achieved one of the following: Undergraduate degree in Social Services, Child and Youth Worker Diploma, Early Childhood Education Diploma or related post-secondary education
• Minimum 2 years experience in child and youth work
• Criminal Reference check for working with vulnerable populations
• Current CPR level C, First Aid and Food Handlers Certification
• Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job
• Working knowledge and use of major computer programs
• Strong knowledge of child development and behaviour guidance techniques
• Effective at communicating and problem solving
• Experience and flexibility working in diverse community-based programs with families facing multiple health risks and barriers

Language Requirements

• English mandatory (oral, written), French and other languages an asset
