One of the top 100 Employers in Canada currently has a great opportunity for an Assistant Controller. You will be reporting to the Director of Finance and will be responsible for the financial aspect of the company.

Your responsibilities

  • Manage operational accounting teams, including Accounts Payable
  • Support financial planning & analysis tasks including budgeting, forecasting, and modelling
  • Drive the development of new systems, including AP, AR, and Purchasing to support automation, process improvements, and reporting tools
  • Review and prepare financial reports, perform monthly, quarterly and year-end analyses
  • Monitor cash balances and forecasts, advising leadership team of anticipated points of concern
  • Maintain a financial closure calendar to inform parties of necessary deadlines
  • Drive the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices
  • Align procedures and policies with best practices and changes in GAAP and external regulations
  • Schedule and direct periodic audits of accounts, financial transactions and other fiduciary
  • Support tax and other statutory compliance and filing requirements
  • Research accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Manage and control internal and external risk and plan for risk mitigation
  • Oversee the training and development of operational accounting team, providing feedback, opportunities for growth and succession planning


Your experience and skills

  • Minimum 5 years combined experience in auditing, accounting, finance and/or consulting
  • CPA Designation is required
  • Someone from the Big 4 would be an asset
  • Solid understanding of GAAP is a must
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience developing new systems and implementing process improvements
  • Experience managing teams directly or indirectly (i.e. leading project team)
  • Strong proficiency using MS Office programs, especially Excel
  • Able to work under limited supervision
  • Excellent time management, organization and team management skills
  • Able to multi-task, analyze information, and resolve problems in a fast-paced organization
