Position Summary

The John Howard Society of Kingston & District is recruiting a professional and motivated Justice Involved Housing Worker. The right candidate will join a highly motivated team with a track-record of very high achievement and an appetite for change and innovation. This position will be on a contract basis until March 31, 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide information, counselling, and support to clients of the housing program
  • Provide emergency assistance to clients within the first few days or weeks of transition from charge/institution to the community
  • Meeting with clients in community and surrounding area for support while in housing crisis
  • Wrap-around support for chronically homeless and hard-to-house
  • Complete standardized assessments to evaluate the client's risk and need areas, and to develop and implement an intervention plan to address those areas of need that are most strongly associated with criminal activity
  • Ensure client file notes are maintained on the client information management system
  • Maintain client master files by affixing assessment and intervention plan, statistical forms, consents, and any relevant internal information including all housing program forms

  • Computer skills, e.g. Microsoft Office, internet, email
  • Able to motivate and give direction to residents
  • Flexibility

Education and Experience

  • A degree or diploma in the social sciences field, combined with case management experience. Specific education, training or certification in community corrections is an asset
  • Previous experience case managing clients who have high/complex needs or have multiple barriers to reintegration
  • Knowledge of motivational, solution-focused and crisis intervention counselling techniques
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Knowledge of risk management
