Job Type: 1.0 FTE (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm)

MacEwan University Health Center is currently recruiting for full-time Clinical Nurse Practitioner. Working as a member of the inter-professional team, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide specialized services in the management of patient care & safety. The NP functions in an expanded role demonstrating a high level of autonomy and is responsible for: conducting patient assessments, diagnosing; ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests; prescribing pharmaceuticals and performing specific procedures within the legislated scope of practice.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Provides comprehensive primary care to the patients as part of an interdisciplinary/inter professional team focused on creation of a person-centered plan of care.
  • Engages clients in risk factor and health problem identification, goal setting, and making choices of intervention for disease treatment, prevention, and health promotion.
  • Experience with screening for chronic disease or substance abuse disorders.
  • Orders and interprets appropriate screening, diagnostic, and laboratory tests.
  • Keeps complete and accurate records of client visits through timely documentation.
  • Uses and adapts assessment tools and techniques based on the client's unique needs.
  • Reviews and updates primary care activities in line with organization goals and projected outcomes.
  • Promotes evidence based practice through the use of latest research based guidelines.
  • Ensures the provision of safe, evidence based, patient and family centered care.
  • Keeps up to date with health related policies and implements if deemed appropriate to impact patient care in a positive manner.
  • Participates in ongoing quality monitoring and improvement.
  • Participates in creating, delivering and maintaining an exceptional quality program.
  • Creates an environment that builds on the principles of integrated team approach.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in a team setting to develop appropriate, patient centered, individualized care plans.
  • Ability to maintain effective and professional relationships with patients and other members of the care team.

  • Contributes to the development of learning resources and initiates health education and other activities that assist, promote, and support patients.
  • Strong health assessment and clinical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time effectively, and be flexible within an active work environment.

  • Considers the psychosocial, emotional, ethnic, cultural, and spiritual dimensions of a client's health without judgement.
  • Working knowledge of differential diagnosis of chronic diseases or substance abuse disorders, when appropriate.
  • Ability to effectively engage patients in a therapeutic relationship, when appropriate.
  • Ability to work with patients by telephone as well as in person.
  • Excellent leadership, critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to report data trends for the quality improvement process.
  • Comfortable with working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary care team.
  • Demonstrates organizational and communication skills

Qualifications:

  • Masters in Nursing
  • Must have current registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA)
  • 3-5 years' nursing experience
  • A Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check.
