Our Next Senior Geotechnical Engineer…

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Rock Mechanic Engineer to join our team. This role will provide technical oversight and leadership to Okane's current and future geotechnical team and support building our Integrated Life of Mine Planning service offering. This role is open to our Saskatoon and Calgary offices or remote opportunities in Canada.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, training, technical guidance, strategic direction and mentorship to the underground mine geotechnical team and other technical disciplines.
• Demonstrate care about the well-being of yourself and others through actively participating in occupational health and safety standards, activities, and initiatives.
• Provide senior technical input to project teams, ensuring core processes and technical standards are followed.
• Actively contribute and guide the development of conceptual models in support of closure plan development and design.
• Apply an advanced understanding of geotechnical engineering principles to progress and lead the delivery of new approaches to solve problems.
• Lead and review numerical modeling programs to assess geotechnical stability, liquefaction, and consolidation assessments.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into overall project design.
• Review geotechnical investigations to support tailings and mine projects (site investigations, monitoring data).
• Prepare, review ,and authenticate advanced technical documentation and reports for technical quality and assurance.
• Assist in developing integrated closure plans, including cost estimation and construction sequencing.
• Project management, including managing budget, scope, and schedule.
• Facilitate workshops, including risk assessments and multiple accounts analyses with various stakeholders and external project support.
• Interact competently with internal and external stakeholders of varying levels of expertise.
• Develop strong relationships with clients, foster existing client relationships, and leverage client relationships to generate new leads and opportunities or initiate referrals.
• Lead the development of proposals including work scopes and estimation of schedule and costs.
• Travel as required to support workshops, client meetings and/or site visits.

Job Requirements

• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, fundamental knowledge of geotechnical design, slope stability, soil-structure interaction, groundwater, seepage, and drainage.
• Proven experience in underground mining, rock mechanics and tailings Is considered an asset,
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills for leadership at both the strategic and tactical levels.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and experience with writing and reviewing proposals, technical reports, and/or regulatory submissions.
• Strong project management skills.
• Operational or closure experience within the mining industry is considered an asset.
• Strong working knowledge of regulatory and legislative frameworks.
• Ability and willingness to coordinate with staff and clients in different time zones.
• Experience using relevant software packages such as GeoStudio.
• Experience building and leading a team through managing, motivating and influencing is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, consider alternatives, and respond quickly and effectively to unexpected and changing conditions.
• Bachelor's or (preferably) post-graduate degree in Geotechnical (Civil or Geological) Engineering and a Licensed Professional Engineer and the willingness to act as an Engineer of Record.
