Position Summary

The Field Service Engineer (“FSE”) is responsible for overseeing the installation and performing the commissioning of large-scale complex Energy Storage Systems at customer sites. The FSE must ensure that each installation phase is of high quality before authorizing commencement of the next installation phase. Work includes on-site troubleshooting, testing and problem solving in collaboration with customers and Corvus teams. This hands-on engineer will be capable of participating in all activities related to Corvus products and projects, including servicing, repairing, planning and documenting all activity. On-site training of customer personnel, and remote support are also part of the FSE's responsibilities.

As extensive worldwide travel is required for this position, candidates must possess a valid Canadian passport to be considered for the role.

Reports to: Customer Service Manager, North America

Salary Range: $80,000 to $95,000 CAD per year DOE

Responsibilities:

  • Install and commission Corvus Energy Storage Systems at customer sites.
  • Supervise installation and commissioning activities at customer sites and provide support to all on-site teams.
  • Coordinate on-site activities with Shipyard, System Integrator, Service-provider & internal Corvus personnel.
  • Inspect quality of installation and, together with the Service Manager and Project Manager, provide approval for the next phase of the installation process.
  • Assist with installation build schedule & site resource plan.
  • Diagnose and repair hardware assembly problems; diagnose and repair software configuration, network and integration issues; update ESS firmware.
  • Provide remote support to guide and assist customers with troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, and resolution of customer issues.
  • Create and update customer issued tickets and escalate as required. Ability to provide up-to-date status on assigned customer issues.
  • Collect and analyze customer ESS data and perform data analysis to support troubleshooting.
  • Collect State of Health (SOH) test data, perform data analysis and create reports.
  • Create Sales Orders and RMAs for shipping components to and from customers.
  • Create and maintain internal and customer-facing documentation related to installation, operation, testing, rework and diagnostics of Corvus ESS systems.
  • Create accurate customer facing reports related to on-site test results, repair summaries, warranty, failure analysis, etc.
  • Provide technical training to customers regarding system installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation.
  • Participate In development of Service Engineering Training Programs for new product introductions.
  • Perform additional tasks as required and determined by the Service Manager.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 7 years of practical work experience in a Service Engineering environment, preferably in marine electronics.
  • Experience with a wide range of marine trades and construction project management.
  • Experience with the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of complex industrial equipment.
  • Experience working with communication systems and networks. Working knowledge of data transfer standards.

Functional Skills:

  • Excellent troubleshooting and practical problem-solving skills applied to electrical, mechanical, and software systems, as well as large system installation.
  • A high level of computer literacy is required.
  • Professional English skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent customer relation, organization, multi-tasking and communication skills.

Behavioral Skills:

  • Flexible and solution oriented. Detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally up to 70% yearly. Must have a valid Canadian passport and driver's license.
  • Must be willing to receive vaccinations as may be required by specific countries in order to obtain a Visa for entry.
  • Ability and willingness to continually learn new procedures and techniques.
  • Must be eligible to meet and maintain requirements for security clearance as applicable.
  • If required, must be able to work additional hours to meet the objectives of the position.

Assets:

  • Experience in the marine industry and knowledge of ship systems (electrical & mechanical) is an asset.
  • Experience with lithium-ion battery technology and systems is an asset.
  • Interest in clean energy technologies is an asset.
