Ontario Line South

Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are to design, build
and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

Working together as Ontario Transit Group we are currently mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works to commence in 2023. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario's economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River)
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown)

Job Description

Variation & Change Team

The Variation Team is part of the Contract Department. The Variation Team is responsible for managing the instruction of any Variation, Change or Claim with the Contractual Authority. The Team is therefore in intimate interfaces with all the Project department (technical, schedule, procurement, construction, legal, finance) in order to provide, in timely manner, comprehensive estimate for any of these events, while assessing any impacts.

The negotiation of any Variation ends up with the Confirmation or the Rejection and if needed, is then passed to the Operation.

The Variation Team is constituted of coordinators, estimators, engineers and schedulers, under the supervision of the Variation Manager. It is supported by different legal & claim consultants, upon request.

What you will undertake:

  • Assist in the update of the Variation Management Plan
  • In charge of the Estimate & Proposal of Variation Enquires
  • Manage and split the workload of the team of Variation Coordinators and Variation Analysts, review the progress, assess and resolve any roadblock to enable the team to progress
  • Monitor the progress of development of the Variation Estimates, forecast the issuance
  • Liaises with all Project departments which shall be involved in Variation & Change,
  • Organize the reviews, define and agree the Variation response strategy with the different Project departments impacted
  • Participate in the analysis of the existing project documentation
  • Establish, review and validate detailed assessments on the impact of variations
  • Prepare submittal documents and manage their review
  • Review and analyze change orders and contract modifications for potential impacts on the project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Maintain a comprehensive log of all Variations
  • Ensure that all Variations are properly documented and communicated to all relevant parties
  • Provide regular reports and updates to the Variation & Change Director and other project stakeholders on the status of all Variations
  • Support the Variation & Change Director in the negotiation and resolution of variations, changes, and claims with the Contractual Authority
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field
  • At least 1-3 years of experience in contract and or variation/change management on large construction projects
  • At least 1-3 years of experience in small to medium-size bids ($1m-$10m)
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in construction experience as PM or Project / Site coordinator
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel
  • Familiarity with relevant construction contracts and contract law
  • Strong problem-solving, synthesis and critical thinking skills
  • The ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • A team player who can collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • An ability to interpret data and make decisions based on evidence/logic
  • Good time management and organization skills
  • Ownership, autonomy, commitment, and an ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to build strong working relationships both internally and with the client
  • Advanced level of computer literacy including MS Office, intermediate level on MS Project
