Responsibilities

  • Transporting residents to scheduled activities and appointments.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of residents and their belongings. Ensure residents arrive safely at their destination and return home.
  • Adheres to all road safety regulations and speed limits
  • Maintains daily bus log including mileage and other relevant information re: repairs, etc.
  • Oversees vehicle work performed by contractors, ensuring that repairs meet standards set by Optima Living and the Ministry of Transportation. Reports promptly to the General Manager about these repairs.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of the bus such as filling the gas tank and windshield washer fluid, checking tire pressure, checking the oil, and the cleanliness of the bus.
  • Ensure the Vehicle Operating Authority, Insurance, and Registration is always current.
  • Maintains inventory of all products utilized in vehicle maintenance and housekeeping products.
  • Assumes responsibility for the security of the bus; checks all locks, doors, and emergency exits regularly.
  • Assist the maintenance team with maintenance work orders and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Moving furniture and other manual materials handling tasks.
  • Maintain property grounds such as grass cutting, weed control, snow/ice removal, washing windows etc.)
  • Remove waste materials, recyclables, and garbage daily or as needed from property and grounds.
  • Operate in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Candidate Profile

  • Able to communicate both verbally and in writing in English
  • Must be willing and able to engage with residents, team members, family, and visitors in a respectful manner.
  • Understand changing priorities and maintain positivity throughout
  • Experience working with seniors in the community health services setting
  • General knowledge of the use of common hand and specialized power tools required in the work
  • Organizational and time management skills.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Class 4 License
  • 1-2 years of experience as a driver.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in customer service.
