Job Summary
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Mechanical Maintenance (MM) Technician will collaborate with Managers, Engineers, Operations, and Maintenance personnel to safely support plant operations, troubleshoot equipment, perform corrective and preventative maintenance activities, as well as supervise contractual resources.
This position requires the skills to help develop, manage and assess work plans to enable the effective completion of work activities across the work management system, executed safely, effectively, on time and according to its priority.
The MM technician is represented by the Power Workers Union and is day shift based but during plant downtime (outages) off hours work may be required.
Responsibilities
Typical duties and responsibilities include:
- Perform safe work practices in line with company and OHSA policies and procedures
- Prioritize and complete preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance on various mechanical systems and components, such as: steam or gas turbine equipment, gear boxes, HVAC equipment, and large compressors
- Reporting of work completed within the site CMMS (which is Maximo); this includes recording all relevant information for work order completion, updating work status, signing out parts/materials, and running reports
- Perform contractor supervisory (active control) duties, which include the management and coordination of contractors and safe work procedures
- Scope, plan, and execute plant maintenance outages
- Apply knowledge and skills to troubleshoot steam, water and gas mechanical equipment, including pumps, valves, fans and associated piping
- Have/acquire working knowledge of gas and/or steam turbines and associated equipment
- Directly support procurement and inventory management; from requesting quotes, to entering POs
- Develop, implement, and improve Maintenance Plans and Procedures for assigned equipment areas
- Demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of various industrial safety systems and functions (Lock out/Tag out, confined space, first aid, IMT, etc.)
- Other duties as required
Education and Experience
Completion of a minimum two-year college diploma program in a mechanical discipline is required;
- 433A Industrial Mechanic Millwright trade ticket is preferred
- Journeyman Construction Millwrights holding a 426A trade ticket, Machinists holding a 429A trade ticket, or any other similar trade can also be considered depending on work experience.
- Minimum ten (10) years of related experience is required, with:
- Proven experience in an electrical power plant facility being preferred.
- Experience with SharePoint are considered an assets
- Additional certifications considered an asset (ie. Hoisting and rigging training, forklift training, confined space and working at heights training, licensed industrial gas fitter…)
Consideration will be given to various combinations of experience, education and training.
Position Qualifications
- Must have computer literacy: MS Office Suite Programs and CMMS (Maximo is preferred)
- Advanced understanding of the fundamental principles of industrial systems, including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication and power generation systems
- Knowledge of gas fired combined cycle facility operations and maintenance practices
- Ability to work safely on or around natural gas and/or hydrogen systems
- Experience in troubleshooting plant equipment failures under pressure
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including experience writing procedures
- Prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Detail oriented with good organizational and planning skills
- Ability to execute work as part of a team or independently
- Willingness to work extended hours, as required, based on operational and business requirements, especially during maintenance outages or emergency call outs
Be able to meet the physical requirements of the role:
- Lift 50 pounds
- Ascend/descend 100' of stairs multiple times during a shift
- Climb ladders
- Working at height and /or in confined spaces
- This position requires candidates to:
- Have and maintain a valid G Driver's license
- Successfully complete a criminal record check.
- Ability to travel within North America (< 5% of the time).
