Hours: 35 to 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

About the role:

At Compass ELC you will work as a Nutrition Specialist alongside some of the most passionate, caring and dedicated educators in the industry. You will spend your time planning, prepping, and cooking nutritious and delicious meals and snacks, in accordance with the Canada Food Guide, Ministry of Education, and Compass Early Learning and Care policies and guidelines. You will model and grow a perspective of equity and strive for a deeper understanding of cultural awareness. Hours will be based on program needs and funding. You will work 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, hours may vary between 7 am and 6 pm.

Some accountabilities associated with the role include:

  • Planning, prepping, and, cooking nutritious and delicious meals and snacks.
  • Collaborating with a dedicated and passionate team of nutrition specialists.
  • Preparing menus and food with consideration to children's food allergies and sensitivities
  • Drafting and preparing seasonal menus in consideration of the Canada Food Guide, Ministry of Education, and Compass ELC policies and guidelines.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with families and including them in the learning process.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with staff, volunteers, students, and community partners.
  • Working as part of a team with Co-workers, Families, Community Partners, and Children.
  • Ensuring the safety of staff and children by learning and acknowledging all children's diverse needs, and backgrounds, and creating equitable opportunities for all children to engage.
  • Demonstrating respect for spaces by ensuring the safety and cleanliness of all equipment, dishes, furniture, and materials.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Is familiar with the Child Care Early Years Act, and licensing standards in a childcare program.
  • Has experience working/volunteering with children and youth.
  • Has experience cooking and providing meals for large groups of people.
  • Has post-secondary schooling or work experience related to the position.
  • Possesses the training and documents required by the Ministry of Education, Compass Early Learning and Care, and the Child Care Early Years Act to work in a childcare setting:
    • Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check
    • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
    • Updated immunization records (Or a signed and notarized refusal of affidavit or medical exemption).
    • Has an up-to-date Food Handler's certificate
