The Role:

Canco is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Payroll Coordinator to support key functions for payroll. The right candidate will develop a deep understanding of the day-to-day payroll processes. This role involves coordinating information for existing and new employees, performing and leading weekly, bi-weekly, and/or semi-monthly pay processes, performing administrative duties and ad-hoc duties as they arise.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of provincial and federal reporting and remittances (i.e. WCB, WSIB, EHT, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations for wages and best practices.
  • Lead year-end reconciliations and tax form preparation such as T4s and ROEs.
  • Responsible for processing salaried employees' payroll and site employee's payroll.
  • Administer and terminate benefits and pension plans for Head office employees accordingly or as advised by the HR department.
  • Develop and update payroll standards and procedures to meet company requirements.
  • Collect headcount, resourcing, and current state data to identify process differences and gaps. Assist with internal audits.
  • Process information for new hires, resignations and terminations and work alongside the HR department.
  • Collaborate with HR and accounting departments to ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance.
  • Collect and verify timekeeping information from employees, resolve payroll issues and clarify any employee inquiries regarding pay.
  • Prepare reports and journal entries to support other departments with regards to payroll
  • Performing ad-hoc administrative/reporting duties as they arise.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of progressive experience and comprehensive knowledge of Payroll and its regulations.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation or candidacy is an asset.
  • Knowledge of up-to-date payroll laws and regulations.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and has a strong sense of accountability.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team. Strong customer service skills are an asset.
  • Ability to deal with and handle confidential information with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, and advanced knowledge of Excel;
  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience in accounting, finance, or a related field. Relevant experience is a plus.
