Job Description
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing the electronics for a point of care genetic device. The Electrical Engineer will specifically design a fluorescence measurement module capable of accurately measuring signals emitted from a qPCR (quantitative polymerase-chain-reaction) as well as develop the device's power electronics. These components must be designed such that they can be integrated into a larger device. The electrical engineer will work primarily from home but is expected to physically be present at meetings monthly and as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with employees of the software, engineering, and genetics team to understand the system requirements and deliver the appropriate electronics solutions.
- Design robust electronic components for clean power delivery and very low intensity light measurement.
- Manufacture, assemble, and test designs.
- Provide power and data interfaces for integration into larger systems.
- Use version control to manage PCB and source code files.
- Create and maintain clear and concise technical documentation accessible to the Organization's other employees.
- Write microcontroller code as needed.
- Performs work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all company policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree/Diploma or master's degree in electrical engineering or other relevant discipline accredited by the PEO. Additional accreditations in optics or imaging system are considered a strong asset.
- Licensed as a P.Eng to practice in Ontario or Québec.
- Strong technical documentation skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in both English and French (written and oral).
- A strong sense of organization, problem-solving, and ability to work independently.
