DescriptionAs a Field Technician at MSG, you will provide support to geotechnical engineers and other professionals in conducting site investigations, collecting field data, performing laboratory tests, and assisting with various aspects of geotechnical projects. You will report to our Canton, MI office, and be working on projects within Canada.
Key Responsibilities
  • On-Site Technical Support: Provide technical expertise and support on-site during project execution, including construction, installation, maintenance, or troubleshooting activities.
  • Sampling and Testing: Collect soil and rock samples using appropriate methods and equipment. Coordinate with laboratory technicians for sample analysis, including classification tests, compaction tests, permeability tests, and strength tests.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate resources, schedules, and activities effectively.
  • Report Preparation: Assist in preparing field investigation reports, geotechnical data summaries, and construction monitoring reports. Document findings, observations, and recommendations for project engineers and clients.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols while performing fieldwork and construction oversight activities. Identify potential hazards and implement appropriate safety measures to ensure the well-being of personnel and equipment.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct inspections and quality control checks to verify compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and safety protocols. Document and report any deviations or deficiencies for corrective action.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports of field activities, including daily progress reports, inspection records, as-built drawings, and equipment manuals.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Associate degree or technical certification in civil engineering or construction related field.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, remediation techniques, and geotechnical principles is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • The role may involve working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks, such as lifting equipment, moving soil samples, and standing for extended periods. Willingness to travel to project sites and work in outdoor environments is required.
