Amsted Canada Inc. has established a new business center in downtown Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. We are elevating our global technology teams in several areas including but not limited to Engineering, Security, Development, Infrastructure, Emerging Technology, and SAP. These teams are instrumental in providing support to all Amsted Industries entities locations worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Controls Engineer for Baltimore Aircoil Company, an Amsted Industries entity. For more than 80 years, Baltimore Aircoil Company has been leading the HVAC, Industrial and Refrigeration industries in developing and implementing customized cooling solutions that not only provide substantial energy savings for customers but conserve the most precious resources on the planet.

Position DetailsThe Senior Controls Engineer will participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) project teams and lead software & hardware design and development for new product controls, participate in the development for controls (SMART) strategy and roadmap, and execute the controls roadmap.

What you will do:

  • Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) project teams as a Controls representative and Lead NPI Controls projects and provide technical support through the activities listed below:
  • Translate product requirements and specifications into controls software & hardware designs requirements and design documents that meet product function needs and quality & cost targets
  • Propose and present optimum controls solutions per each NPI controls spec
  • Design systems to control fan motors, pumps, valves, safety switches, heating elements, sensors, and other features that require data communication into and out of the BAC units for interaction with customer building management systems and other systems on cloud.
  • Develop controls system verification and validation plan, and execute the plan
  • Partner with the product platform teams and controls panel suppliers to create panel drawings, wiring diagrams, bills of material, and system configurator
  • Independently work with vendors, contractors to evaluate and qualify suppliers and/or technical proposals to achieve target cost and quality of every Controls project
  • Lead BAC internal cross-functional teams discussions where/when ever controls technical decisions need to be communicated and agreed
  • Define ‘best practice' rules for customer software development from lessons learned from Controls projects and document the ‘best practice'
  • Establish testing procedure and define pass criteria for Controls systems, participate in lab testing, and analyze test data to optimize product performance characteristics
  • Lead activities to promote standardization across all business functions for software development and testing on controls systems
  • Identify and implement product improvements and cost-out opportunities through participating in NPI projects or existing product sustaining projects
  • Independently write Controls related Engineering Change Notices (ECN) to communicate controls design change and/or software design/documentation changes
  • Support field issues as presented and work to satisfy the customer expectations
  • Prepare and present Controls related technical training to all levels of the organization
  • Propose and present Controls Strategy and implementation plan to Technology/Product Strategy planning teams
  • Identify opportunities and implement improvements for increasing Controls development velocity and quality
  • Learn, apply, and keep current with regulatory codes and standards such as IEC, NEC, UL, FM, and associated electrical codes in markets BAC participates in globally

NATURE & SCOPE

The Senior Controls Engineer reports to the Controls Engineering Team Lead/manager as a part of the Global Engineering Department. This role will have significant interaction with cross functional teams. This role will have significant interaction with third party vendors, contractors, our sales reps, and end user customers.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related discipline. Advanced degree or P.E. a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience in engineering with technical project management experience, with a minimum of 2 years in new product development
  • 5+ years of experience in developing electro-mechanical control systems, experience with HVAC control systems preferred
  • Proficiency in technical writing, specifically in controls/software specification writing, test plan writing, test plan execution
  • Familiar with software languages such as C/C++, Structured Text, and other PLC languages
  • Familiarity with integrated communications via building management system (BMS) protocols such as BACNet and Modbus
  • Demonstrated capability with Microsoft Office, VBA experience and AutoCAD family of products, experience with software revision programs (Github) a plus
  • Previous experience in laboratory testing processes, including instrumentation and measurement techniques.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Excellent base salary and targeted annual bonus structure (Salary Range: $90,000 - $125,000 plus bonus; Salary will be determined based on skills, ability, and qualifications)

This position requires travel both domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time. This position is being filled in our Charlottetown office and is not available for remote work at this time.
