Position Summary
The Operations Manager, Environmental Technical Services is the driving force behind high-impact internal and client environmental projects, ranging from spill responses to comprehensive site assessments and remediation efforts. Your role will be pivotal in steering these projects from inception to successful completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and exceeding expectations. In this role you will orchestrate project management, from setting and meeting deadlines to assigning responsibilities and tracking progress. Additionally, you'll spearhead our innovative Research and Development initiatives, pushing the envelope in environmental solutions. You'll oversee a talented team, guiding them with expert technical and regulatory insight, and ensuring their objectives align with our strategic goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Finding and Bidding on New Environmental Project Opportunities:
- Complete detailed technical scope documents and analysis for large projects (>$200k) to submit competitive bids.
- Analyze available tenders and RFPs to assess potential opportunities.
- Thoroughly review bid documents to understand objectives, outcomes, and mandatory requirements.
- Attend client meetings and build relationships with potential clients, with support from the Business Development Department.
- Oversight of Technical Services Staff:
- Lead meetings with Project Managers to address project needs, challenges, and successes.
- Mentor and train direct reports to enhance their skills and performance.
- Conduct meetings with Field Staff to discuss project needs, challenges, and successes.
- Supervises and mentors those managing existing environmental projects
2. Managing Business Unit Financials:
- Accountable for managing the department P&L and adjusting the teams priorities to ensure that targets are met
- Reviews and reports on financial numbers as required
- Create annual budgets and forecasts
3. Research and Development:
- Conduct market research and feasibility studies to support strategic business development initiatives.
- Create detailed business cases to advocate for investment in new projects.
- Lead research and development efforts, including literature reviews, data analysis, and records.
- Manage, track and administer SRED application data, including meeting minutes and monthly reports, in coordination with Finance.

- Environmental Technologists
Physical Requirements
- May be required to endure standing for long periods of time, lifting objects up to 50 lbs, performing repetitive motions, or completing physically demanding tasks during occasional project field work.
- Work is primarily carried out indoors, but project work in the field may be be required from time to time.
Qualifications
- University Degree or College Diploma in Environmental Sciences or a related field
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Project Management, showcasing a strong track record
- A minimum of 5 years in Environmental or Waste Services Consulting, with demonstrated expertise
- 5 years of experience in leading and developing high-performing teams ideal
- Proficient in managing department financials
- Adaptable and entrepreneurial in spirit
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders (internal and external), regulators, and First Nations
- Professional certifications such as P.Ag, RT.Ag, CET, PMP, or EP are considered an asset
