Job Description

The Manager of the Nursing Resource Team and the Central Staffing Office communicates and embodies the mission, vision, values and strategic direction of Halton Healthcare. The role is responsible for the support and direct supervision of the Nursing Resource Team, Unit Assistants and Staffing Office Assistants providing oversight for the alignment of diversely trained nurses and unit assistants with the daily staffing needs of the organization and on a 24 hour basis. The manager is responsible for the quality of care provided by direct reports as well as the day to day operations of the Central Staffing Office. The manager acts as a scheduling resource for the Patient Care Management Team.

The Manager creates an environment that promotes collaboration, teamwork, professionalism, competence and customer satisfaction in addressing the staffing needs of the organization with a focus on patient safety.

The Manager, as a member of the hospital management team, assumes responsibilities for related corporate projects and participates in hospital wide management activities.

  • Plans, monitors and manages operating budgets for the Department ensuring cost effective utilization of human and fiscal resources. Reports and analyzes utilization on a monthly basis
  • Ensures appropriate orientation and educational programs are in place to support professional practice
  • Provides ongoing performance feedback and conducts written performance appraisals according to established hospital standards and policies
  • OH&S compliant with demonstrated safety awareness and leadership
  • Ensures staff is scheduled equitably and with the appropriate skill mix and numbers to meet the needs of the units requesting NRT staffing support
  • Recruits and coordinates orientation of newly hired staff
  • Coordinates orientation of staff to specialty areas as needed eg. ED, ICU, Maternal Child
  • Adjusts the scheduled staffing to accommodate changing volumes and surge capacity
  • Implements educational plans responsive to staff needs and accountable on a 360 degree appraisal
  • Practices participative, transformational and empowering management styles, which foster the professional development of front line staff, and the effective functioning of self-directed interdisciplinary patient care teams
  • Fosters succession planning
  • Identifies opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies in areas of responsibility
  • Collaborates with Patient Flow Navigators and Clinical Operations Managers to identify priority areas for staffing support
  • Coordinates and leads ad hoc tri-site staffing meetings
  • Develops policy and procedures related to patient care both corporately and unit based to provide guidelines to promote critical thinking and autonomy by front line caregivers
  • Works collaboratively with leadership team to provide coverage during vacation/absence
Qualifications
  • Recognized health care leadership/management certificate
  • Must have a health care related undergraduate degree and Master's degree either complete or under progress
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook mail and meeting booking within calendar.
  • Demonstrated clinical, managerial and administrative skills and progressive management experience
  • Relevant experience in staffing and scheduling
  • Experience with an electronic scheduling program is preferred

Additional Information

Hours: Monday to Friday; Days 7.5 hour shifts (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)

Salary: $56.369 to $63.851 per hour
