The Role

BGC is looking for a Facilities & Equipment Coordinator to join our team to support our Advanced Geotechnical Laboratory in Fredericton, New Brunswick (Canada). BGC's Advanced Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility that has established itself as a world- leading consulting Laboratory for characterizing the geotechnical properties of soil and rock. The Laboratory team comprises approximately 15 engineers and technicians with a passion for delivering high quality testing for some of the world's most complex geotechnical projects. The lab operates out of a ~11,700 square foot facility and a separate ~1,500 square foot warehouse.

Reporting to the Lab Manager, the successful candidate will receive shipments of soil and rock samples, inventory and store the samples, track sample locations, and move samples between the lab and nearby warehouse as required for testing purposes. The candidate will support with maintenance of building and lab equipment, calibration of lab equipment, complete various handyperson tasks, and may support with testing activities under the supervision of lab staff. You will be working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment alongside our Admin Team, Engineers, Geoscientists, and other teams within BGC.

You will gain valuable industry experience working at a multinational Applied Earth Sciences engineering firm while practicing our core values of One Team, Excellence, Curiosity, Common Sense, and Clarity.

Responsibilities

  • Receive lab samples using a forklift, inventory, and coordinate storage of samples (including data entry)
  • Transport samples to/from the lab, warehouse, and/or on-site storage as required based on testing schedules using a pick-up truck
  • Support daily operations and maintenance of facilities including lab building, warehouse, on-site storage (i.e., shipping container), and associated systems (i.e., HVAC, generator, fridge, freezer, plumbing, electrical)
  • Assist with procurement, installation, maintenance, and repair of lab equipment and machinery
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules to ensure proper functioning of building and lab equipment (i.e., vacuum pumps, hand tools)
  • Track and report any equipment that is due for calibration
  • Ensure storage facilities, equipment, and supplies are clean, tidy, and organized
  • Order supplies and coordinate with various suppliers/contractors and review invoices to compare with work orders
  • Follow safety protocols related to facilities and equipment use

Additional Tasks

  • Manage and maintain BGC's truck and conduct regular vehicle inspections
  • Coordinate with the Admin Team to ship samples or equipment
  • Ensure the alarm system is fully functional and manage alarms
  • Proactively suggest initiatives to improve operating practices
  • Perform other tasks as required

Required Education, Experience & Competencies

  • 2+ years of experience working in facilities and equipment
  • Familiar with the use of various hand tools and able to perform simple repairs or maintenance
  • Able to lift and carry 50 lbs regularly
  • Self-motivated, with strong time management and task prioritization skills
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to take on various tasks as requested

Desired Education, Experience & Competencies

  • First Aid certification and Forklift certification
  • Comfortable learning new technology and software
  • Proficient at MS Office suite with emphasis on Excel
  • Diploma in Facilities Management or Business Administration
  • Good understanding of budget tracking and purchasing

Position Requirements 

Driver's License

BGC requires that employees have a valid driver's license, and that employees can drive a pickup truck. Upon hiring, BGC will require a driver's abstract to allow for a safety review of your driving history.
