Town of Tillsonburg is looking for two (2) Information Technology Technicians who would be responsible for providing technical support via the telephone and in-person, performing basic computer repairs or coordinating with external vendors, troubleshooting PC and mobile device issues, installing and configuring new hardware and software, and maintain a fully up to date inventory of all hardware and software.
This is a permanent full-time position with an excellent benefits package including immediate group benefits coverage, OMERS defined pension plan and free Employee Health Club Membership at the Tillsonburg Community Centre.

  • Update and maintain IT inventory system.
  • Assist in the documentation of knowledge base articles to further develop the end-user self-help systems available to employees.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of computer networks including hardware/software support, training, and special projects
  • User and email account generation and support, Active Directory, Azure and Microsoft 365
  • Troubleshoot IT systems when there is an issue reported by computer users.
  • Perform routine checks to make sure all systems are operating as expected and are up to date.
  • Carry out data backups and administration.
  • Installing and maintaining software updates periodically
  • Assist in providing network and remote connectivity hardware/software support
  • Support logs and other related information; researches and recommends network and server hardware and software
  • Assist in installing, designing, configuring, and maintaining system hardware and software
Help Desk Support
  • Assist users over the telephone or in person with personal computer, software and multi-user systems problems.
  • Use a Helpdesk support application to log and document support requests.
  • Maintain network and computer system access levels.
  • Maintain and access control lists for a variety of computer systems using the appropriate administrative tools.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of standards and procedures.
  • Provide instruction on the use of newly installed personal computers and software.
  • Conduct individual, and group training on new/changed software and hardware.
Telecommunications
  • Operate and maintain computers controlling the town's telephone, voice mail and call accounting systems.
  • Activate new phone extensions or provide relocations through programming changes or by physically moving telephone panel wires in telephone closets.
  • Design, configure, modify or delete voice mail boxes and trees through programming changes to the voice mail system computer.
  • Determine the cause of telephone, voice mail and call accounting system software and hardware malfunctions.
Other Duties
  • Recommend changes to established policies and procedures as requested.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements and professional standards.
  • Attend seminars or courses related to information technology as required.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in the performance of duties and with respect to confidential and/or sensitive information.
  • Follow safe work practices related to job responsibilities and have basic understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act as it relates to the work environment.
  • Adhere to all Town policies and procedures.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer hardware installation and repair and telephone voice mail hardware and software programs including common personal computer programming techniques and mini computer operations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and understanding of computer systems and telecommunication equipment functions and capabilities.
  • Keyboard efficiency and a working knowledge of a variety of software packages (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Great Plains) and a demonstrated capacity to quickly learn other computer software.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and synthesize complex technical information so that it is understandable to a layperson.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player who is able to establish effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
  • Possess and maintain a valid “G” license.
