Central Interior Native Health Society (CINHS) is a vibrant urban Indigenous Integrated Health Team Centre and educational facility situated on Lheidli T'enneh territory in Prince George, BC. The Clinic's inter-disciplinary team provides trauma-informed and culturally safe, medical and psychosocial services to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

The Safety Flow Navigator proactively engages with Central Interior Native Health Society (CINHS)'s clients, families, and visitors in order to support a culturally safe experience. Key areas of focus include enabling access to the appropriate cultural and clinical support services, orientation and supporting admission and follow up appointment processes as well as supporting communication between the care team and the patient and family. The safety flow navigator is also responsible for de-escalating situations to limit conflict.

This position ensures that all who enter the Central Interior Native Health Society (CINHS) site are kept safe and secure in a proactive rather than reactive manner. The incumbent also helps to navigate clients, families, and visitors, ensuring they are connected to the appropriate staff.

Overall Responsibilities include:

  • Greeting clients and their families upon arrival.
  • Orienting patients and families to the Central Interior Native Health Society (CINHS) site.
  • Helping clients to connect to appropriate staff for check-in.
  • Explaining the administrative steps and processes.
    • Connecting patients and families to additional resources as required from requests from the patients and families.
  • Ensuring the confidentiality of patient information at all times.
  • Knowing the practices of trauma informed care and applying them as needed.
  • De-escalating situations to limit conflict.
    • In the case of an escalated situation, calling the appropriate persons for aid and then completing a report on the outcome of the situation.
  • Fostering an environment which provides clients and families with a culturally safe experience.
  • Ensuring the Central Interior Native Health Society (CINHS) site is safe and secure from harm.
  • Acting as a mediator between parties at the CINHS site as needed.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 years' experience in the healthcare, social work, or counselling field, or related experience if the experience correlates to the demands of this position
  • Highschool graduation
  • Experience with de-escalation strategies
  • A comprehensive understanding of the issues facing vulnerable populations
  • Comprehensive understanding of culturally competent language and communication
  • Understanding of trauma informed care.
  • Experience with de-escalation theories and practice.
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization is an asset
  • First aid certification is an asset
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the unique history, cultures, and rights of Indigenous people and demonstrated extensive knowledge of the Indigenous health care needs, services, and issues is an asset
