As a member of the Complex Malignant Hematology Team, the NURSE PRACTITIONER (NP) functions in an expanded role demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill to manage the care required for patients referred to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The NP will be aligned to one of the following sub specialty area as the primary area of specialization within the CMH program. The NP will primarily care for patients admitted at PM and support patients within the CMH programs who may be admitted at other UHN sites.
Leukemia (Out patient): Rotating through Malignant Hematology Day Unit, Leukemia Rapid Assessment Clinic (RAC) and the Bone Marrow Biopsy and Aspirate clinic (BMBA) in predominantly NP led clinics and treatment areas.
Leukemia (Inpatient/clinics): Member of the interprofessional team, NP will rotate between inpatient Leukemia units and outpatient Leukemia clinics.
Allo transplant team: Member of the interprofessional provider team rotating between inpatient Allo transplant unit, out patient treatment (MHDU) and clinic setting and Allo@home program where the NP will be responsible to provide care for patients in the community which may include in-home visits and virtual follow up.
Lymphoma, Myeloma, Auto transplant Program: Member of the interprofessional provider team rotating between outpatient treatment areas and inpatient units, NP will be providing care for patients undergoing intensive lymphoma/myeloma care and/or autologous stem cell transplant. Clinical responsibilities include rotations through the pre and post auto transplant care, triaging and sign off for transplant eligibility, caring for patients with diagnoses of lymphoma or myeloma, and primary management of pre and post autologous stem cell transplant patients.
Other responsibilities include academic and leadership activities, including delivering, coordinating and participating in research, education and professional development activities.
The successful candidate will require clinical skills to care for patients but also a level of comfort with an evolving role, based on needs within the site group and the continued expansion of the lymphoma, myeloma and autologous blood and marrow transplant program.
The Nurse Practitioner will report directly to the Director of Professional Practice, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
Qualifications- Current College of Nurses of Ontario Registration in the Extended Class (EC) as a NP required
- Completion of a Master's degree required
- Demonstrated expertise as a Nurse Practitioner is an asset
- Up to five (5) years of relevant experience; including three (3) years of experience working in the malignant hematology setting is an asset
- Certification in Oncology Nursing preferred or commitment to obtain certification when eligible.
- Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support required
- Commitment to collaborative practice
- Experience in nursing research methodology an asset
- Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution
- Evidence of professional malpractice insurance
- Membership in the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO) and other organizations relevant to the role preferred
- Knowledge of data management programs an asset
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal and customer services skills
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem solving skills
