Job Description

Duties

  • Maintaining/repairing designated fans, pumps, air compressors, hospital equipment and other mechanical machinery to ensure effective operation; operating hand and power tools (e.g., lathes, grinders) to fabricate parts required during maintenance, repair, etc;
  • Installing mechanical items;
  • Communicating with clients regarding required downtime;
  • Setting up and maintaining machine tools and the machine shop;
  • Contributing to the maintenance of inventory levels;
  • Working in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner;
  • Performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required.
Qualifications
  • At minimum, completion of high school plus Millwright Apprenticeship Program or recognized equivalent;
  • 7,040 hrs on-the-job training and 8 weeks (240 hours) of technical training in class each year for four years;
  • Possession of the provincial Certificate of Qualifications;
  • Understands verbal work orders and/or instructions;
  • Ability to read and understand short notes, forms, instructions, memos and/or letters;
  • Ability to read and understand materials such as detailed operating/procedure manuals, diagrams, blueprints, etc;
  • Good eye/hand coordination;
  • Ability to estimate and measure sizes and distances accurately;
  • Ability to work independently at tasks that require concentration;
  • Ability to maintain/repair equipment/instruments including grinding, welding and metal threading machine parts;
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines;
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task;
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand;
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job:
    • able to lift 11 kg to 20 kg, pushing or pulling heavy equipment, reaching forward, reaching above and below the shoulders, using machinery or equipment that requires very controlled movement;
    • large movements requiring strength and coordination.
  • May be required to work at multiple sites as well as rotating shifts.
