The Mechanical Engineer will be based in Calgary and will provide project engineering support for a project in oil and gas, including leading and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams in the production of technical deliverables for the various projects assigned to them. This role is based in the office with trips to the site as required.
- Being able to make technical decisions and solve technical issues with little guidance or oversight.
- Establish specifications for equipment to be designed or procured. Equipment can be rotating, bulk material handling, crushing, conveying, screening and similar.
- Writing scopes of work and construction work packages.
- Review contractor design documents to ensure they are consistent with the current standards, practices and procedures.
- Works with other disciplines to coordinate requirements for the equipment, e.g. process, reliability, instrumentation, electrical, structural, piping etc.
- Works with vendors to clarify scopes and respond to RFIs.
- Participates in design reviews as required. These may include model reviews, HAZOPs, SILs, etc.
- Support operations team for any required updates of operating procedures and equipment isolation plans.
- Supporting the reliability team in troubleshooting equipment issues.
Requirements
- Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar with P.Eng. designation.
- Be able to communicate effectively.
- Self-starting energetic attitude.
- 5+ years of direct Oil Sands experience is preferred with some experience in ore preparation and extraction.
- Field experience would be an asset.
- Experience with reliability and asset management would be an asset.
- Willing to travel to the site frequently.
